When he was six years old, Leader Jeffries’ son Joshua explained that “debacle” means “something bad.”
On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social explains how the first 100 days of Donald Trump’s presidency have been a debacle for the American people.
Global immunizations saved 154 million lives in the last 50 years—that’s 1 life every 10 seconds, for 5 decades.
U.S. leadership made this progress possible. Vaccines can help us prevent cancer, stop polio, and beat malaria—but only if we invest in them. #WorldImmunizationWeek
As the House Democratic Co-Chairs of the American-Canadian Economy and Security (ACES) Caucus,
Rep. Veasey and I extend our congratulations to Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election victory and appointment as Canada's 24th Prime Minister.

What has Trump done to make Americans’ lives better in his first 100 days in office? Nothing.
In today’s Democratic Daily Download, @repbarragan.bsky.social recaps how Republicans are making life worse for Americans – raising costs and taking away health care to give tax breaks to billionaires.
President Trump and his special employee Elon Musk have created chaos at the Social Security Administration, closing offices and cutting staff. That means more waiting and uncertainty. I'm working to stop them.

Now, @energycommerce.bsky.social is marking up health care-related bills related to substance use disorders, cancer research, organ transplants, and more, but the Trump administration has already cut or proposed cutting much of the funding & staff doing this work. ⬇️

Because of the funding cuts to USAID to NIH and CDC, the Trump administration has undone decades of work and made the chance of preventing the spread of malaria much worse—jeopardizing the health of people around the world and at home in the U.S. #WorldMalariaDay
Make no mistake—abortion bans are only the start. Anti-choice groups are challenging birth control protections in court and spreading misinformation about contraception.
Our bodily autonomy is under attack. We must protect it by passing the #RightToContraception Act.
This #EarthDay, people worldwide are looking toward renewable and clean energy. Here in the Energy Capital of the World, we have the know-how to lead the way.
President Trump is working to block wind and other renewables. It's on us to fight back for our planet—and for our future.
Pope Francis was a man of humility, inclusion, and compassion. Today, I join people around the world in mourning and in gratitude for his lifetime of service rooted in faith, in hope, and in love.

Trump and Republicans want to give more than $4 trillion in tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy and they’re planning to pay for it by gutting nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid.
On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @repgreglandsman.bsky.social breaks down the math and what it will mean for Americans ⬇️

As part of today's Medicaid Matters Day of Action, @repkimschrier.bsky.social and House Democrats across the country are fighting to protect this vital lifeline from Republican cuts.
Learn more about what why Medicaid is so important on today's Democratic Daily Download ⤵️
#MedicaidMatters for all of us.
The House Republican budget plan to cut it is reckless.
This #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, I'm thinking of Porsha Ngumezi, whose miscarriage led to her death in a state where cruel abortion laws interfere with women's health care.
Her family is missing a mother and wife because the State of Texas is failing the women who live here. ➡️
It is critical that we do everything we can to protect the dignity and security of every American—especially our seniors who have spent a lifetime working hard and paying into the system.
In defense of Social Security, I have:
• Sent a letter to Speaker Johnson urging him to reject cuts to the program
• Cosponsored bills to keep our field offices open and protect Americans' data
And I’ll keep working.
Texas has 68 SSA field offices that employ more than 3,300 people who help ensure Texans receive their benefits.
Elon Musk published a list of 800 federal real estate leases that he intends to close, including 47 SSA offices throughout the country.
More than 70 million Americans receive Social Security benefits. In #TX07, 84,898 people collectively receive $160 million in monthly Social Security benefits, including:
• 65,679 retirees
• 5,699 disabled workers
• 4,678 widows
• 4,473 children
• 4,369 spouses
They appear to have little regard for Social Security. In fact, Elon Musk said it on a well-known podcast: he thinks the system that lifted more than 22 million Americans out of poverty in 2023 is a “ponzi scheme.”
