Big News! The bipartisan Improving Travel for American Families Act, which I introduced alongside Rep. Mackenzie, passed the House by a 398-12 vote! This legislation would establish a new TSA line for families to streamline the airport screening process for both families, and other travelers.
This bill is an important bipartisan effort to lower housing costs and ensure that we can put a roof over every American's head. Access to a safe and affordable home should be a right, and Congress must continue all efforts to make that a reality.
Though I am glad that the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act will become law, it's fitting that it will be without Trump's signature. Trump would rather see Americans on the street than sign his name to a bill that would lower costs.
This disgusting so-called 'enforcement' has cost the lives of too many individuals here at home. It must end immediately. While Republicans respond to this moment by gaslighting Americans and trying to give ICE even more money, I'll continue to fight to dismantle this agency.
The shooting of another person by ICE, this time in Maine, is a jarring reminder of the cruelty of this Administration. ICE had no reason to stop this individual's vehicle—he was not the target of immigration enforcement and was issued a Social Security number. Now, he is gone.
“I can’t sit idly by and think that there’s not something that we should be doing.” After meeting with a family whose son died by suicide following a relationship with an AI chatbot, @foushee.house.gov says Congress must act to protect children.
Blanche has aided the cover-up of the Epstein files, was an architect of Trump's $2 billion J6 slush fund, and has continued to weaponize the Department of Justice. This track record shows he has no interest in serving the American people over Trump's political agendas.
This bill would protect Americans from AI chatbot harms by requiring monthly safety assessments for risks like suicide, banning the use of children's data for training and harmful features for minors, and empowering FTC and state AGs to enforce the law. foushee.house.gov/media/press-...
🚨 @repcasar.bsky.social and I introduced the People-First Chatbot Act alongside 30+ groups including @epic.org, @consumerfed.bsky.social, @fairplayforkids.bsky.social and @alondra.bsky.social. AI chatbots are putting the lives and data of Americans at risk. We must take action.
Bravo Reps. Valerie Foushee and Greg Casar, and major congrats to @kara-williams.bsky.social, @benwinters.bsky.social, and @fairplayforkids.bsky.social for their work on the model People-First Chatbot Bill! epic.org/people-first...
Last night, federal lawmakers introduced the People-First Chatbot Act, a framework based on EPIC's model bill, which was crafted to make chatbots safer for everyone and address the harms caused by AI chatbots that were rushed into the public’s hands with little oversight or transparency.
The People-First Chatbot Act is built on a careful foundation- the AI Bill of Rights-and brings real enforcement to protections that matter: safety, non-discrimination, privacy, transparency, and the right to a human alternative. I'm pleased to support it. foushee.house.gov/media/press-...
“The People First #Chatbot Act rightfully focuses on privacy, safety, and accountability. It critically has straightforward enforcement mechanisms that allow people to act when they are harmed by careless #AI companies putting profit over people.” @benwinters.bsky.social
It was great to visit Lenovo’s RTP campus to learn about their efforts to develop cutting-edge technology right here in the 4th District. As technological innovation continues at a rapid rate, I’m glad to see local research labs, universities, and companies working to push our country forward.
I sent a letter to the National Park Service regarding the lack of upkeep at the Women’s Equality National Monument in Washington, D.C. For example, there is currently a handwritten note functioning as a plaque above a desk belonging to Elizabeth Stanton, a leader of the women's rights movement.
This is one of many instances that underscore why I continue to support @ramirez.house.gov's Block the Bombs Act. We cannot continue to allow our nation's involvement in conflicts abroad that put innocent civilians at risk.
I am disturbed by the detention of prominent Palestinian doctor, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, and reports that he has been beaten while being held in Israel without charges. He must be released to receive care and be allowed to return to Gaza to continue his lifesaving work. www.bbc.com/news/article...
It was great seeing so many people out in the community throughout this 4th of July weekend! As we look ahead to America’s next 250 years, let us keep working together to build a more perfect Union that lives up to its promise for everyone.
