The National Security Supplemental bills that come before this House tomorrow make our choices clear. Liberty or tyranny? Democracy or dictatorship? Allies or enemies? Resolve or accommodation? Strength or surrender? Rule of law, not rule of rogues. Security, not vulnerability.
Caleb Kowalski is a 7th grader at Put-In-Bay Middle School. When he needed a project for his school science fair, he turned to nearby Lake Erie for inspiration. He went on to win the Northwest Ohio Science and Engineering Fair for his project focusing on combatting algal blooms.
This year, 16 cities from across our continent competed for the title of North America's Strongest Town. That title came back home to America's Heartland in the Great Lakes Region. The winner was Maumee, Ohio taking the title over Norfolk, Nebraska. NW Ohio couldn't be prouder.
What America makes and grows, makes and grows America. We are using historic funding to boost our clean energy economy across our nation and Ohio. This means record support for:
⚡️Clean Energy & Power
⚙️American Manufacturing
🏠Energy Efficient Homes
🌎A Habitable Future for All
Speaking to the United Steelworkers today in Pittsburgh, President Biden promised to keep US Steel American. I agree — we ought to keep this lodestar company authentically American. I stand with workers throughout our region, and across our nation in support of US industry.
Great to join my Labor Caucus colleagues today for an important conversation with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers President Kenny Cooper. #1u
Iran's spiderweb of tyranny spreads across the Middle East. Houthi terrorists block passage of global trade through the Red Sea and Straits of Hormuz. Hezbollah mercenaries in Lebanon, rain down rockets into Israel. Hamas terrorists in Gaza find allies in these terrorist regimes.
It helps America stay competitive by creating access for rural enterprises, small business, students, the elderly and so many more across our region and the nation. I will continue my efforts to get the House Republicans to act and ensure access to highspeed, affordable internet service.
If enacted, this legislation will extend and fund the Affordable Connectivity Program through the end of 2024. Access to affordable highspeed internet service is important to our communities, rural and urban alike.
This is why I am one of 221 Bipartisan Co-Sponsors of HR 6929, the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024. I urge Speaker Johnson to allow an up or down vote on the House floor on this critical bill.
Without action, 1 in every 5 households or more than 1 million in the State of Ohio and 75,000 across the 9th District could lose highspeed internet access at the end of this month. That is simply unacceptable.
While the ACP has been very effective, it requires additional funding to continue after April. Last year, Biden submitted a request for continuation of funding. As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, it is frustrating House GOP leaders ignored the request and failed to take action.
In the past few months, countless constituents have asked for my help to keep the ACP operational. This initiative, funded by President Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, has provided over 75,000 households across NW Ohio with access to secure, affordable highspeed internet.
Welcoming Spring in NW Ohio.
When Cleveland, Ohio, hosted the NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four this weekend, something fantastic happened along the way. For the first time in NCAA Tournament history, the women's championship game had higher viewership than the men's championship game.
Honored to welcome Rossford City Councilwoman Rachel Morimoto-Tinney to attend Japanese Prime Minister Kishida's Joint Address to Congress.
Important to hear from Army, Marine Corps, and Navy at the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee today. I thank them for their time and willingness to discuss priorities for 2025 for our armed forces at home, abroad, and in our Great Lakes Region.
Monday, I viewed the Total Solar Eclipse surrounded by thousands of children, teachers, and families at Imagination Station in Toledo, Ohio. A new generation of Ohioans got a chance to take in the wonders and see a phenomenon, something we will not witness again until 2044.
As Eid al-Fitr begins, and the Ramadan month of fasting and mindfulness comes to a close, may you find meaning and connection in time spent with family, friends, and community to guide your days ahead. #EidMubarak
Good to visit Hoen's Garden Center in Holland, Ohio. Since the Hoen brothers bought the land in the 1950’s, for four generations their family has grown and sold flowers and vegetables. Outstanding to see a locally owned family business flourish in our region of NW Ohio.
