Great to meet with Lisa Kewley, Director of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory to discuss SAO’s important research. Their work is helping answer some of humanity’s biggest questions about our universe, and I’m proud to be an advocate for this research funding in Congress.
Wishing a happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures in CA-18 and across the country. Thanks for your support and guidance, and may today create new fond memories with the ones we love.
Today marks 161 years since the end of slavery in the United States. This #Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom, honor the resilience and achievements of African Americans, and recognize the work that still remains for equality and justice.
Thanks to Open Doors to Future Possibilities for inviting me to speak at last week’s walk and BBQ in San Jose to honor our women veterans! We owe our freedom to their sacrifice, and it was great to celebrate the selfless service of these heroes.
Earlier this year, I presented a $900k check I secured for the new Sí Se Puede Behavior Health Center in Watsonville. On Friday, I was thrilled to speak at the grand opening! This facility will change lives, and I thank them for their work to address substance use disorder.
Trump ran on “ending the weaponization of government” yet has repeatedly used his DOJ as his own weapon to investigate his political opponents for crimes that don’t exist. He’s more focused on his personal vendettas than on the well-being of the American people.
BREAKING: California Gov. Gavin Newsom says the DOJ is investigating him and his wife. The Democrat accused Trump of using the DOJ to target him because he is considering a presidential run.
It was so nice to see @pajarovalleyusd.bsky.social students at the Capitol during their trip from Watsonville to Washington! They had some fantastic questions, and I hope that this visit inspired them to consider the many ways they can serve our community and our country.
It’s heartbreaking to see little kids appearing all alone in immigration court, without a lawyer. This week, I led 15 of my colleagues to introduce the Fair Day in Court for Kids Act, to ensure that unaccompanied minors get legal representation during immigration proceedings.
It’s been 10 years since the Pulse shooting, the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ+ community. We’ll never forget the 49 lives lost that night nor the many people impacted by this tragedy. We honor their memories by fighting for an America free from hate and senseless gun violence.
The proposed ICE facility near Gilroy likely violates federal laws and procedures. I applaud @agrobbonta.oag.ca.gov and @sccgov.bsky.social for their lawsuit to stop this development, and in Congress, I am introducing several amendments that would block funding for this detention center.
Trump in 2024: “We will end inflation…Prices will come down and they’ll come down fast.” Inflation just spiked to 4.2%, the highest in 3 years. His war is costing Americans dearly, and he just doesn’t seem to care.
214 House Republicans just voted to send $70 billion more to ICE and CBP with no guardrails to stop their misconduct. That’s on top of the $140 billion they already gave them last year. Nothing to help lower the cost of living. It’s outrageous.
House Republicans are trying this week to ram through another partisan spending bill. Not a dollar will go toward lowering your grocery bill, your gas prices, or your healthcare premium. Just more money for ICE and Trump’s J6 slush fund.
Long before January 6th, the Southern Poverty Law Center warned about white supremacists like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. It’s very telling that House Republicans just held a 2nd hearing, not to talk about the threat these groups pose, but to attack @splcenter.org.

Good to meet last week with John Sarrao, director of the SLAC National Accelerator Library, to discuss SLAC's ongoing work in areas including AI, quantum research, and fusion energy. Federal investments in these fields are critical to America’s scientific leadership.
Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈 From voting against DOMA to supporting the Equality Act, I’ve always proudly stood in support of LGBTQ+ rights in Congress and will continue to fight for the rights and dignity of every person.
🔭This week marks 150 years of discovery at Lick Observatory! Many people have found their love of science at this iconic facility, and I’m so proud of the research and education programs that Lick Observatory has supported all these years. #CA18
