Veterans earned their care through sacrifice. That care should come from a strong VA—not from a patchwork of for-profit providers who may not understand what military service demands. This is not what community care was meant to be. It is not reform. It is a quiet betrayal.

And while the funding sounds helpful, it is already causing morale to collapse within the VA, where staff see the writing on the wall: fewer resources, more burnout, and veterans being pushed into a fragmented private system with fewer protections and less specialized care.
This shift is not accidental. It is part of a deliberate, under-the-radar push to privatize veterans’ health care, straight out of the Project 2025 playbook.
That includes a $34 billion increase for community care—a program that was originally designed to support veterans with urgent or geographically challenging care needs, not replace the VA system altogether.
buried in the fine print is a major shift that could permanently weaken the VA health care system. Nearly three quarters of all new veterans’ health care funding under this plan would go to private sector providers, not VA doctors or facilities.
Congressional Republicans, working with the Trump administration, have proposed a new budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs. On paper, it looks generous. It increases the VA’s total funding to $453 billion. But
You may have missed this with all the other news going on. But if you are a veteran or care about our veterans, I hope you pay attention. 🧵👇🏻
30,000 layoffs at VA is still 30,000 too many. Morale is sinking, and veterans are getting shortchanged. Meanwhile, 75% of new healthcare funding is going to private care, not the VA. The GOP is quietly marching toward privatization—vets deserve better.
Republicans just gutted student loan programs to lock working families into a lifetime of debt. They slashed repayment options, ended key protections, and capped aid—while handing billionaires more tax breaks. A full-on attack on the American Dream. We won’t forget. thehill.com/homenews/edu...

Republicans are quietly trying to privatize the VA again. Their budget sends 75 percent of new funding to private care. But community care should be a supplement, not a replacement. Veterans deserve real VA care, not a voucher or a workaround but the care they were promised.

The news out of Texas is heartbreaking. Chrissy and I are thinking of the families who lost loved ones, especially the young girls taken too soon. Our hearts are with them, and we’re praying for comfort, strength, and healing in the days ahead.
Chrissy, the kids, and I had a fantastic time at the 45th annual A Capitol Fourth concert and fireworks in DC last night. Incredible show and a beautiful celebration of America. Huge thanks to everyone who made it possible!
And let us commit to protecting the freedoms we cherish—for ourselves, for our children, and for the generations still to come.
So today, as we gather with family and friends and celebrate with pride, let us also remember what this day truly means. Let us reflect on who we are at our best.
Because we lead the world in science and innovation. Because we believe in generosity, in responsibility, and in doing what is right.
