John Cornyn and Thom Tillis just caved.
They had real leverage. On Judiciary, either one could have stopped Todd Blanche’s nomination cold.
What did they get? A legally dubious memo rescinding the $1.8B slush fund and an unsigned statement on Trump’s tax protections.
No amount of spin can change the plain truth. If confirmed, Todd Blanche would be Trump’s defense attorney disguised as Attorney General.
He cannot be the people’s lawyer while the sitting president is his client. He must not be confirmed.
The cruelty is aimed at the children least able to absorb it.
This is morally reprehensible.
We’ll fight it in every way we can.
They want to strip away the help that lets a struggling parent get their kid to a doctor, spot a learning delay early, and show up to school ready to learn.

That conflict does not disappear with a memo.
I’m glad that Senators Cornyn and Tillis want written proof that the $1.8 billion slush fund built to pay January 6th insurrectionists is actually dead, and with it the audit immunity Blanche handed Trump and his family.
But that is the very least Cornyn and his colleagues can do.

Killing it means most enrollees will pay more next year, right as the cost of groceries, housing, utilities, and everything else is already through the roof.
Seniors on fixed incomes do not have that room. This is exactly the opposite of what they need right now.
The Trump administration just announced it is ending a program that has been holding down Medicare drug premiums, and the timing could not be worse.
That program kept premiums lower for around 25 million seniors on Part D drug plans.
