The result is a DOJ with fewer resources for trafficking, fewer experienced prosecutors, fewer services for victims, and fewer cases being brought.
Meanwhile, they found plenty of time for politically charged prosecutions of Trump’s perceived enemies, while continuing to pursue cases that federal judges have thrown out.
Trump’s DOJ closed more than 23,000 criminal cases in its first six months, while shifting resources toward immigration enforcement.
Some investigations have effectively stalled, and new cases are rarely being opened.
So where did the “law and order” firepower go?
Why did this happen? Agents were pulled into immigration enforcement, experienced trafficking prosecutors left in unusual numbers, and grants that help keep victims safe and stable enough to testify were delayed or frozen.
Federal sex-trafficking charges just hit their slowest pace since 2010. Only 73 people were charged through June, about 22% below the average of the past three years.
The Trump DOJ said fighting sex trafficking was a “top priority.” Then they gutted the resources needed to actually fight it.
Instead, families are heading into another school year paying more for the supplies and food their kids need.
They are the basic things parents buy to get their kids ready for school.
Families are feeling the squeeze everywhere. Parents are cutting back, hunting for sales, and trying to make the same paycheck cover more.

The cost of packing a lunch is climbing too.
Bread, up 22%.
Apple juice, up 20%.
Animal crackers, up nearly 16%.
These aren’t luxury purchases.
Parents are already stretching every dollar. The last thing they need is back-to-school shopping turning into another gut punch.
A new analysis finds that the typical basket of school supplies cost about $175 per student this year, up 7.7% from last year.
And it’s not just pencils and notebooks.
Our sailors and Marines deserve better than to be pushed past their limits and then left wondering when they will finally get home.
If we don’t keep speaking out and fighting for them, we don’t deserve to have them fight for us.
In a separate incident, another sailor reportedly intervened to stop a shipmate from going overboard.
The wife of a San Diego sailor who attempted to jump shared that her husband is now on medical hold and fears a dishonorable discharge could destroy his 13-year career simply because he was exhausted after being repeatedly overextended.
The ship has been operating under extraordinary strain, with roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard and the deployment extended far beyond its original schedule.
More than eight months into a deployment with no end in sight, reports of moldy showers, broken toilets, food and supply shortages, and meals so inadequate that one family described a cup of rice and two tortillas.
Sailors are reportedly trying to jump overboard on the USS Abraham Lincoln.
This is exactly the kind of crisis military families and advocates warned about.

Today would be a great day for Trump to fire Pete Hegseth and replace him with someone who is actually competent.
