Trump is using hunger as a political weapon, depriving 40 million Americans – most of them children and the elderly – of SNAP benefits in defiance of a court order. It is horrific that a President would give $40 billion to Argentina while depriving his own citizens of food.
Law enforcement officers risk their lives to protect ours. They deserve the best equipment - including for the smallest officers! Cranston just received 4 new K-9 fleet vehicles, paid for by a grant I was honored to secure, so patrol and therapy dogs can keep RIers safe. 🐾🚔
Small businesses rely on Affordable Care Act tax credits to afford health insurance for their employees. If Congress lets them expire, small businesses and workers in RI will pay the price. Speaker Johnson must call the House back into session and extend the tax credits now.
Today I joined Rhode Islanders helping neighbors during a difficult time. 500 baskets from the Elisha Project were distributed in Cranston. This is community at its best, stepping up when Trump’s attempt to withhold SNAP benefits put people at risk of going hungry.
Hunger should never be used as a political weapon. It took two orders from federal judges for Trump to release funding for SNAP. Now Republicans in Washington need to extend the Affordable Care Act funding, reopen the government, and put this insanity behind us.
Open enrollment is here, and I want to hear from you. Are your health care premiums increasing for 2026? Do you rely on ACA tax credits that are set to expire? Share your story using this form. Your voice helps me fight to lower health care costs for RI. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
Last night we honored Rhode Island’s veterans at WaterFire's Annual Salute to Veterans. I am grateful for every Rhode Islander who has served and for the community members who come together each year to say thank you.
The Johnnycake Center is one of many local organizations stepping to fill the gap as we wait for the Trump administration to comply with the court order to release SNAP funding. Rhode Islanders are stepping up. We need the administration to do the same.
Spent the morning with Narragansett scouts collecting food for Johnnycake Center in Peacedale. As we wait to find would whether the Trump Admin will obey a court order to release SNAP funds, RIers are stepping up to help neighbors in need.
Open enrollment for HealthSource RI starts TODAY, and people across the state are bracing for higher premiums because of health care cuts and expiring ACA tax credits. This is exactly why health care funding must be part of any deal to reopen the government.
Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid must be protected at all costs. It is an honor to be recognized by @retiredams.bsky.social for my efforts in Congress to stand up for seniors, but even more of an honor to represent to many retired RIers who deserve to live with dignity.
A federal judge has made clear that the admin DOES have the authority to use the $6 billion SNAP contingency fund to pay November benefits. No more excuses. Do it now.
BREAKING: Judge doesn't quite grant TRO requiring Trump admin to make partial SNAP payment for next month. Judge Indira Talwani (Obama) says USDA has that power. Wants answer by Monday on whether it will do so. Seems like she'll order if they don't. Doc: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
