Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Patricia Pelosi is an American politician who was the 52nd speaker of the United States House of Representatives, serving from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the first woman elected U.S. House speaker and the first woman to lead a major political party in either chamber of Congress, heading the House Democrats from 2003 to 2023. Her 20 years as a House party leader are tied with Joe Martin's as the second-longest after Sam Rayburn. Pelosi is in her 20th term, having served in the House since 1987, representing California's 11th congressional district, which includes most of San Francisco. She is the dean of California's congressional delegation.

May this season of joy bring you peace and cherished time with loved ones. From my family to yours, wishing you a Merry Christmas filled with faith, hope and charity!
The Bay Area and America lost one of our great moral voices. Betty Reid Soskin helped America tell its story honestly—including the chapters too often left out. At 104, she leaves behind a legacy of courage, clarity and service that will endure for generations to come. May she rest in peace.
Betty Reid Soskin, the beloved historian, musician and oldest U.S. park ranger until her 2022 retirement, died Sunday at her Richmond home.

A large power outage is impacting San Francisco - only call 9-1-1 for life safety emergencies, avoid non-essential travel, treat down traffic signals as four way stops, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed, and turn off major appliances to prevent surges.
A majority of the House of Representatives supports extending ACA tax credits. Speaker Johnson should not leave for the holidays without bringing this bill to a vote. Working families cannot afford to start the new year paying the price for the Republican health care crisis.
Two straight months of job losses and rising unemployment. This is the cost of Trump and Republicans’ reckless tariffs and their Big, Ugly Bill. They broke the economy and left working families to pay the price.
On Friday, San Francisco honored our beloved Mayor Ed Lee—a public servant who never forgot who he was fighting for. It is fitting that his legacy now stands where a symbol of discrimination once did, reflecting the progress and values he worked his life to advance.
Paul and I and our entire family mourn the loss of our very dear friends and are praying for their loved ones during an unimaginable time of grief.
Civically, he was a champion for the First Amendment and the creative rights of artists. And professionally, he was an iconic figure in film who made us laugh, cry and think with the movies he created.
And in all of their endeavors, Michelle was his indispensable partner, intellectual resource, and a loving wife. Personally, Rob cared deeply about people and demonstrated that in his civic activities — whether by supporting the First 5 initiative or fighting against Prop 8 in California.
The news of a deadly assault on Rob and Michelle Reiner in their home is devastating. It’s hard to think of anyone more remarkable and excellent in every field and endeavor they pursued. Rob was creative, funny, and beloved.
As Jewish families light candles, we all must confront the reality of rising antisemitism both at home and abroad and vow to eliminate it from civilized society.
Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate in San Francisco and around the world. As we mark what should be a time of joy for communities, our thoughts are with the victims of the antisemitic terrorist attack in Australia.
Thirteen years later, communities are still being torn apart by gun violence—and the weight of that loss continues to demand action. We must not stop fighting until the job is done.
On this solemn anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, we remember the 26 beautiful souls taken in an act of unimaginable violence. Yesterday’s shooting at Brown University is a painful reminder that this grief is not confined to history.
The Respect for Marriage Act affirmed a simple truth: love deserves respect and families deserve protection.   As we mark three years since Democrats enacted it, we deepen our resolve to push back on forces of discrimination and advance equal justice for every American.
A decade after the world agreed in Paris to confront the climate crisis, the stakes couldn’t be higher—especially as the President calls it a “con job.” In reality, he’s the con job. With or without him, we’ll keep fighting for a sustainable future and to protect God's creation. For The Children.
Today, I had the pleasure of meeting with Golden Gate National Recreation Area leadership. Our national parks are a source of wonder and pride but layoffs and hiring freezes have hollowed out staffing and severely strained services. We must support the public servants who protect our parks.
Honored to meet with Former President Kersti Kaljulaid and Ambassador Kristjan Prikk to discuss European security and emphasize that Estonia will always have friends under the Capitol dome. The Baltic States remind us what defending democracy looks like—and America must stand with them.
