Maine electricity prices are up 20% since last year.
Instead of helping families, the Admin is using taxpayer $ to pay companies to abandon wind projects and redirect investments to LNG exports.
Enough with the dirty deals!
Congress has the power of the purse. Why do Republicans REFUSE to use it?

That lost income proved insurmountable.
It'll now be much harder for many families to put food on the table. All while Trump's Big Ugly Bill kicks 2.4 million Americans off SNAP—including 30K Mainers.
These punitive policies weaken the food systems families and small businesses rely on.
Shameful.
Fresh Approach was a Portland staple, and one of the few stores around that accepted SNAP.
It's closing—thanks to Trump’s USDA.
After *one* violation (involving dish soap and tissues) the store was fined and lost its ability to accept SNAP.
I sent a letter urging USDA to reconsider. They refused.
This bill would also:
✅ Help schools cover the real cost of meals
✅ Support schools that buy food from local farmers
✅ Wipe out unpaid school meal debt
✅ Provide free summer meals to all children
Maine is already leading the way. Now it’s time for Congress to follow. (3/3)
That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor the Universal School Meals Program Act to make sure *every* student in America—no matter where they live—can get free breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack at school.
No stigma.
No shame.
No child turned away. (2/3)
🧵
More than 14 million kids in the US live in food-insecure households.
Here in Maine, every public school student can get free breakfast and lunch, regardless of family income.
It's working. The program now serves 170,000+ students.
EVERY child in America deserves that same peace of mind. (1/3)
In Maine, we’ve already seen what this looks like: ICE agents intimidating people who were peacefully observing and documenting enforcement actions, even showing up at residents’ homes and telling people they were on a “terrorist watchlist.”
That kind of intimidation has no place in a free country.
This shouldn't be controversial, but here we are… debating in the FY27 Commerce, Justice, Science bill whether taxpayer dollars should be used to spy on, investigate, or intimidate Americans for exercising their First Amendment rights.
(I agree with @pocan.house.gov: They absolutely should not.)
As ever, stay vigilant, remain peaceful and look out for your neighbors.
I know many are still traumatized by what happened during “Operation Catch of the Day.” That’s why it’s so important that we stick together. Today, tomorrow and every day until ICE’s cruelty is finally brought to an end. (3/3)
If an immigration agents come to your home or place of work:
🟢 Ask to see a warrant
🟢 Do not open your door unless agents shows you a valid warrant
🟢 Do not panic and do not run away
For more information about your rights (and what to do and NOT do), click on the link below. (2/3)
🧵
We're hearing reports of an uptick in ICE activity in Maine.
It’s critical that you KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. If you’re approached by an immigration officer, you have the right to:
🟢 Remain silent and not answer any questions
🟢 Refuse a search (if you’re not under arrest)
🟢 Speak to a lawyer.

I am deeply saddened by the news that Maine Game Warden Joshua Tibbetts lost his life in a tragic plane crash this morning.
As authorities investigate this accident, I'm holding Joshua’s family, friends, and the entire Maine Warden Service in my thoughts.
May his memory forever be a blessing.
With every day these hostilities drag on, more Americans will suffer.
Dr. King once said, "A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on war than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death."
I couldn’t agree more.
Trump’s illegal war has cost taxpayers $29 BILLION thus far (and likely far more).
That's how much it would take to extend the ACA subsidies for another YEAR.
Millions have lost health coverage since January. All because Republicans chose war and tax cuts for the rich over affordable health care.
The American people are hurting. Everything is too damn expensive. Things are only getting worse because of Trump's war and disastrous trade policies. And all this Administration knows how to do is deflect, deceive, and distract.
But sure, let’s give this guy $1 BILLION to build a gilded ballroom!
HOW IT STARTED:
"On day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again, to bring down the prices of all goods.” — Donald Trump, August 2024
HOW IT'S GOING:
Inflation just hit a three-year high, thanks to Trump’s illegal war in Iran—the kind he promised never to start (another lie).
That’s why I introduced the Agriculture Resilience Act, which would help us:
🌏 Stave off the worst of climate change
👨🏼🌾 Protect farmers from crop losses
💵 Help make food more affordable
We shouldn't have to choose between protecting our planet and lowering costs.
They've always been connected.
Amid all the chaos of Trump 2.0, many have argued that talking about climate change is a waste of time.
Counterpoint: The climate crisis is quite literally a "kitchen table issue."
When extreme weather hurts harvests (whether here or abroad), families feel it in the form of higher grocery prices.
If pausing the 18¢ federal gas tax can provide relief to families, we should do it. Democrats have been calling for a pause for weeks.
I'm glad Trump finally caught up. But this won't clean up the mess he made. The real solution is ending the war that sent gas prices soaring in the first place.

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
