When workers come together to bargain, they earn higher wages, better benefits and safer workplaces. And veterans benefit from a VA staffed by workers who are well-compensated, properly trained and who work in a safe environment
While we are still gathering the facts of the situation, my thoughts are with the victims and their families. Everyone should feel safe in their communities and students should feel safe on campus.  We must do everything we can to prevent these all-too-common tragedies of gun violence.
I was horrified to learn of the violent tragedy that occurred at Old Dominion University this morning. I am thankful for the first responders who were able to neutralize the shooter before they could perpetrate any further violence.
It was a pleasure to address members of the Newport News Bar Association this evening at the Monthly Membership Meeting. I gave a comprehensive update on several pressing legal issues, including the Trump Administration’s assault on due process, civil rights and voting rights
Last evening, I attended the World Council of Hampton Roads Democracy Series, which featured NPR White House Correspondent Tamara Keith Her presentation, “Democracy Depends on Trust in the Press,” examined the relationship between journalism, public trust and democratic resilience
I gave remarks today during the Old Dominion University Maritime Conference, where I stressed the need to work together to advance the future of shipbuilding and ship repair through industry collaboration, innovation and workforce development initiatives
I toured the DaVita Langley Dialysis clinic in Hampton this afternoon.  Thank you to Ms. Williams and the staff for the visit and briefing, where I learned of issues that undermine end stage renal patients’ ability to elect the health insurance coverage that best meets their needs
I was honored to cut the ribbon today for the renovated Boys and Girls Club Greater Hampton Roads Unit. The $850,000 in federal community project funding I secured helped the club make improvements to support programs for the 200 young people who visit the location each week.
I joined representatives from Hampton Roads’ military installations and NATO ACT this morning at the VA International Tattoo Community Leaders Breakfast. We received a briefing on next month’s performances, which will highlight the U.S. 250th Anniversary and include ensembles from around the world.
Expanding Pell Grants to short-term, career-focused programs will give Virginians new opportunities in tech, healthcare, and skilled trades.   By prioritizing strong partnerships and program quality, we can build a workforce ready to meet growing demand. www.pilotonline.com/2026/03/07/c...
I joined a grateful community in congratulating my friend and Chesapeake City Councilwoman, Patricia “Pat” King, MD, for being selected as the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Chesapeake Women’s Division 2025 Woman of the Year
Earlier this evening, I attended the 9th Annual UNCF Hampton Roads Mayors’ Masked Ball, which brought together higher education officials, members of the business community, elected officials and civic leaders to assist deserving students from across the Commonwealth
