$4.5 trillion in tax cuts for Elon Musk and his ultra rich buddies won't bring down costs for working Michiganders. Here’s where we should start instead: permanently bringing back the child tax credit. Elon’s kids aren’t going without, Michigan kids shouldn’t either.
What's in their budget? Nothing to bring costs down. But what they do have is $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the ultra-rich. Ranking Member @congressmanboyle.bsky.social on how this Republican budget betrays the middle class:
Last week, I introduced a bill with @rephaleystevens.bsky.social to prevent Elon Musk from accessing US citizens' private data. All it takes now is for three House Republicans to be willing to stand up to Donald Trump and Elon Musk and for the American people.
Because no President, no matter their party, should be able to install an unelected billionaire to root around in the computer code of our payment systems and access Americans’ most private personal and business data.
As a former Treasury official, last week I introduced the Taxpayer Data Protection Act alongside many of my colleagues. It clarifies the ethical, cybersecurity, and professional requirements required to access our nations’ payment systems.
The former Secretaries are right! The unprecedented access to Treasury’s payment systems by an unwarranted official and a rogue band of recent college grades undermines Congress’ power of the purse and the full faith and credit of the U.S. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/o...
ONCE AGAIN, ELON MUSK SHOULD NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE TREASURY PAYMENT SYSTEMS & U.S. TAXPAYERS INFORMATION. I'm calling on 3 of my Republican colleagues to do the right thing & join my Taxpayer Data Protection Act to make sure data isn't accessed inappropriately by anyone, ever.
Thank you to the American Indian Higher Education Consortium representatives from across MI who stopped by today. We talked about the critical role the U.S. Department of Education plays in ensuring Native students can access a good education. I won't stand by & let anyone take that away.
Did you know that many WORKING Americans rely on Medicaid because they can’t access health insurance through their employers? They are the folks who work in our nursing homes and grocery stores and provide home care to our seniors.
Elon Musk, or other unelected billionaires, shouldn't have access to Americans’ sensitive data. That’s why I introduced the Taxpayer Data Protection Act w/ @casten.house.gov. Thanks to @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social, @whipkclark.bsky.social & @reppeteaguilar.bsky.social for joining!
Elon Musk should not have access to your most sensitive information like your Social Security number, birthdate & address.  That's why I'm joining @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social & my colleagues to advance legislation that prevents such unlawful access to the Treasury Department's payment systems.
I urge my Republican colleagues to stand up to this power grab and join Democrats in using our Congressional authority to ensure the agency continues its critical work to secure conflict zones, prevent famine, and promote democracy worldwide.
Our country is a better place because of the contributions of Black Americans. This Black History Month, we honor and recognize the extraordinary achievements of Black Americans in every part of American life and culture.
I've met with Keith's wife, Aviva (who was held hostage for 51 days), and his daughters several times and am so thankful that their tireless advocacy paid off, and they will finally be together as a family.
