I asked Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth if he would carry out an order from President Trump to shoot at protestors exercising their First Amendment right to protest.
He refused to answer.
I asked him if he would have sent in the military on January 6th.
He refused to answer.

Proud to join my Democratic women colleagues in the House & Senate to highlight the stories of women & families who will be impacted by the Big Ugly Bill. Medicaid & SNAP are more than benefits—they are lifelines for people like Nancy and Charlie who are just trying to make ends meet.

Yesterday, @tokuda.house.gov, @pelosi.house.gov, CEC Chair @repmarktakano.bsky.social, & @replsimon.bsky.social led 66 other Members of Congress in demanding Secretary Hegseth rescind the decision to rename the USNS Harvey Milk.

Hawaiʻi on the Hill Day 2! Celebrated the 9th annual Taste of Hawaiʻi where we showcased the incredible flavors, sounds, and spirit of our islands. Mahalo Senate Hiromo and Hawai’i Chamber of Commerce for putting our unique cuisine, culture, and local businesses on center stage in D.C.
Kicked off Hawaiʻi on the Hill Day 1 at the Welcome Reception last night! Great to see so many friends and ʻohana, made up of state and county leaders, businesses, non-profit orgs and community advocates.
If Republicans cut billions from Medicaid with the Big Ugly Bill, families will suffer. A preschool teacher from Oʻahu shared with me that Medicaid is the only reason they could afford life-saving care for their prematurely-born son. Medicaid is more than a benefit—itʻs lifeline.
I’ve seen Job Corps change lives in Hawaiʻi, all across our islands. A mother in Hilo told me nothing could save her son, until Job Corps. I will protect Job Corps & the real results it has delivered to our communities in Hawaiʻi—we can't turn our backs on young people that just need a chance.
First hearing as Ranking Member of the Conservation, Research, & Biotech Subcommittee! Mahalo to Nicole of the Hawai‘i Cattleman’s Council for testifying on behalf of our cattlemen. She was the first Hawaiʻi witness in the subcommittee's 19 year history & made sure Hawai‘i voices were represented.
Joined my SCC colleagues today in commemorating the legacy of Tiananmen Square and honoring the courage of those who were brutally massacred 36 years ago while calling for a free press, government accountability, & democracy. To those keeping the memory of June Fourth alive, we will never forget.
Glad to see a fellow kamaʻāina, Dr. Avery Ching, testifying in my Ag committee hearing today! Mahalo for answering my questions about equitable access to new financial technologies for our rural communities.
Sat down with @fernandez.house.gov & Women Forward to discuss how @demwomencaucus.bsky.social is fighting against this administration's & House Republicans' anti-women & family policies. We must continue fighting to create a bright future for women & families across this country. Mahalo!
Happy #PrideMonth! Proud to be part of the Equality Caucus & celebrate the vibrancy of our LGBTQI+ ʻohana as we recognize their accomplishments, resilience, & courage in the ongoing fight for equality. Everyone should be able to be their true authentic selves. 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️
Mahalo to HGEA, IBEW, IATSE, and all the union members who joined our talk story to share how the Trump admin's actions have silenced workers, threatened their rights, and ended critical jobs. We must continue ensuring the dignity of work for all in Hawaiʻi.
Mahalo to the Hawaii State Association of Letter Carriers for inviting me to speak at the 45th triennial state convention! It was an honor to talk to carriers representing Hawaii, California, and Washington DC. I appreciate your hard work and dedication to your job and country.
Back from over 24 hours at the Capitol, fighting against the Big Ugly Bullshit bill. I watched Republicans cheer as they cut off 3 mil from food assistance & nearly 14 mil from life-saving healthcare. Adding TRILLIONS to the deficit, all for billionaires. This is a betrayal, but we aren't giving up.
Mary from Hilo & Noelynn from Kīhei are real people in Hawaii that will be hurt as a result of cuts to SNAP. They are honest, hardworking Americans who need a little help to get through a rough patch, not extra red tape & paperwork requirements that would make it even harder to feed their families.
This is what Republicans want to cut, amazing organizations like the Maui Food Bank who feed our communities. Right now, they serve over 40,000 a month. Instead of granting billionaire tax credits, we need to support our families & our local food producers that keep food on our tables.
Republicans finally show up to engage on the heinous bill they introduced, but only because the Democratic Ranking Member called for the committee to adjourn. Well now, that's called a "work requirement."
Dems are here speaking truth to power. Where's the GOP? Truth hurts huh? #HandsOffSNAP
Ready to go!
