The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in Hawaiʻi affected by severe storms that began on March 10, 2026. Certain taxpayers in Hawaiʻi, Honolulu, Kauaʻi, and Maui counties now have until July 8, 2026, to file federal returns and make tax payments: bit.ly/stormtaxrelief
Mahalo to everyone who braved the weather and came out to our Lahaina townhall. It was a great discussion about the floods, small business support following the fires, and immigration, and truly appreciate Akaku TV being there to record and broadcast it.
Before our townhall, got to join the Maui Food Bank for their regular distribution of fresh protein and produce in Lahaina. I was there when we blessed Uncle Mana (the mobile food truck) and it was amazing seeing it in action.
It was an inspiring, albeit rainy 🌧️ day in Lahaina, seeing the new affordable teacher housing and the ongoing Habitat for Humanity rebuilds. Each unit I stepped into felt like home and will be a place for new memories for our local people and families.
As the weather approaches, please prepare now. Ensure your emergency kits are ready with plenty of water and shelf-stable food. Most importantly, take care of each other and check in on your neighbors. Stay safe!
Please note the center will be closed this Wednesday through Friday ahead of the forecasted storm. Our staff will be back next week to continue offering assistance with federal issues.
The Community Assistance Center at Waialua District Park Gymnasium is here to support our North Shore community as families recover from the Kona Low storms. My team will be there every Tuesday from 10am to 11am to assist with passport replacements, federal agency issues, and more.
Wrapped up the day at the Hauula Community Association, talking through ways to strengthen long-term resilience across Koolauloa. Long, but good day focused on people and caring for the places we love.
Then made a visit to Kahuku Medical Center. I’m proud to support their Community Project Funding request to modernize and expand their ER so they can keep up with growing demand and continue delivering lifesaving care close to home.
After that, stopped by the Wahiawa Health Mobile Clinic—truly meeting people where they’re at and making sure care is getting to the communities that need it most.
From there, headed over to the Community Assistance Center, where our team has been holding office hours every Tuesday from 10am–2pm. Really good to see folks coming in, getting help, and connecting with resources.
Spent the day talking story with Waialua small businesses and farmers who are still dealing with the impacts of the floods—it’s clear there’s a lot of work ahead, but also a lot of heart in the community.
RSVPs are welcomed, but not required. If you have any questions or special accommodation requests, please call our office at (808) 746-6220. I hope you will be able to join us.
On Saturday, April 11, I will be holding a community town hall in Molokaʻi at Mitchell Pauʻole Center. My team and I will be on site offering assistance with federal issues, discussing policies affecting Hawaiʻi, and answering questions from community members.
A clear and present danger to the American people and our national security is sitting in the Oval Office. This isn’t about partisanship. It’s about protecting lives and livelihoods. Speaker Johnson must call Congress back immediately and invoke the 25th Amendment.
My office has compiled a list of disaster assistance resources for families, farmers, small businesses, nonprofits, & veterans navigating the aftermath of the flooding. Resources include SNAP benefits, FEMA assistance, unemployment support, agricultural & small business recovery programs, & more.
