Today, I’m wearing turquoise to raise awareness of those living with lung cancer — which disproportionately impacts firefighters and veterans. In Congress, I am committed to fighting for policy that supports prevention, detection, and treatment of this terrible disease.🩵
Thank you to the first responders from across Virginia who helped protect our community during last night's shooting in Spotsylvania County. I greatly appreciate our law enforcement officials for what they do each and every day to keep our neighbors safe from gun violence.
The federal government is supposed to deliver for families, not force them to go hungry. The Trump Admin halted $500 million in funding for food banks and emergency food providers, impacting more than 400 organizations in Virginia. I joined my colleagues in pushing back against these cuts.
The Patrick Leahy Farm to School Program supports local farmers, provides important nutrition education, and gets healthy food to Virginia students. I joined 38 of my colleagues in demanding answers as to why the USDA cut this vital program.
At my roundtable in Fredericksburg, local leaders shared success stories of ending phone-use in classrooms. One stuck with me: a student told the superintendent, “You all got it right this time.” Phone-free classrooms are making a difference — and my UNPLUGGED Act will help more schools get there.
🚨 I introduced the UNPLUGGED Act to support phone-free classrooms. We need to restore quality education for our kids. I’ve heard from Virginia public school leaders that phone-free classrooms help students focus, reduce anxiety, and strengthen connections.
🚨I'm joining my colleagues from Virginia in speaking out against the cancellation of $500 million in funding for food banks and emergency food providers. These cuts will impact more than 400 pantries and food delivery organizations across the Commonwealth — and I'm pushing back.
Last night, my team enjoyed speaking with prospective U.S. Service Academy students at a joint VA-07 and VA-10 information session. Are you interested in applying to receive a nomination to a U.S. Service Academy from my office? Stay tuned for applications dropping on May 1.
I was glad to meet with Virginia Commonwealth University President Michael Rao in my Washington, D.C. office. It was great chatting about the valuable resources and opportunities you strive to make available to VCU students. Thanks for my new swag!
