When federal funding goes to public schools, there is transparency and accountability. But as I heard from an expert witness at a recent @democrats-edworkforce.house.gov Committee hearing, that's not the case if public dollars go to private schools.
I continue to hear about the urgent need for more affordable housing in every corner of NW Oregon. The legislation I’m leading could quickly increase the amount of affordable housing and the support services people need to get ahead.
Graphic with text and photo of Congresswoman Bonamici at an affordable housing construction site. Text reads: "I’m introducing three bills to address the affordable housing shortage and homelessness crisis. The housing crisis has many layers of complexity, and it will take all of us working together from multiple angles to solve it."
Graphic with text and photo of Congresswoman Bonamici speaking to an early childhood educator at a child care center. Text reads: "Build Housing with Care Act. The Build Housing with Care Act would provide $500 million to co-locate child care centers, including home-based providers, with affordable housing developments. Priority would be given to projects in child care deserts or rural communities, including qualified Head Start providers and providers that serve low-income children."

If you’re an Oregonian who’s glad you stayed home today because of the snow and ice, thank a NOAA scientist! Accurate forecasting by the National Weather Service—part of NOAA—is essential for emergency planning, but that’s under threat by the Trump administration.

If you need to drive, use caution on snow or ice and give plows extra space. Please do not pass County snow plows and avoid abandoning your vehicles. They can become obstacles for crews which delays clearing roads & can potentially cause unnecessary closures.

The new administration has been in office for less than a month and already we’re seeing extreme attacks on public education. On behalf of millions of students across the country, I hope all of my colleagues will oppose attempts to defund public schools.
Education is one of the best investments we can make, yet this administration wants to cut important funding that supports low-income students and students with disabilities. We are here to fight back!
