Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with Illinois TRIO students and staff. As the Trump Admin. threatens to zero out TRIO funding, I will continue to back this important program that helps first-gen, low-income, and underrepresented students succeed in college.
I joined @duckworth.senate.gov & our Dem colleagues in a letter to Secretary Hegseth to demand answers on U.S. airstrikes that reportedly killed at least 168 people—mostly children—in a school in Iran. There those responsible for this horrific school attack must be held accountable.
Today, I hosted the Illinois Soybean Association to discuss the state of the farm economy. I believe President Trump broke his promise to farmers. Tariffs, Iran, his damage to the bipartisan Farm Bill, abandoning E15 as a priority, cutting USDA staff and research – all make farming too expensive.
Today is the one year anniversary of the Trump Administration gutting the Department of Education. I joined @hirono.senate.gov to let our students and teachers know that we will always fight for you, even if President Trump abandons you.
@murray.senate.gov just gave Republicans a second chance to fund TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard. They said no since it wouldn’t include more money for President Trump’s mass deportation operations.
BREAKING: Senate Republicans just blocked my bill to fund TSA and FEMA... AGAIN. This isn't complicated: if Republicans won't agree to rein in ICE & CBP, they should AT MINIMUM work with us to fund TSA. But they won't.
Predatory for-profit colleges rake in billions in federal student aid but leave students drowning in debt with near-meaningless degrees. I introduced the Proprietary Education Oversight Task Force Act to shed light on this industry and give students the tools to avoid predatory for-profit colleges.
The American people have a Constitutional right to decide whether their children will be asked to fight a war. We cannot wage large scale international conflicts based on the President’s whims.
I am pleased to see the President recognize the dangers invasive carp pose to the Great Lakes’ economy and ecosystem. Hopefully, his Administration will heed his warning and release funding for the Brandon Road Interbasin Project which is critical in preventing carp from reaching the Great Lakes.
After gutting Medicaid & ending the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits, millions of Americans lost the peace of mind of quality coverage for their families. Dr. Oz still believes that too many Americans have an ACA plan. How many more people will lose their health care because of this Admin?
Reverend Jesse Jackson committed his life to the fight for civil rights. I counted him as an ally on many issues of social justice. His legacy is alive and growing—and I’m glad to lead the charge to honor his achievements.

BREAKING: Senators introduce resolution honoring the life and legacy of Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr., for his decades of justice, equality, and human rights advocacy.
DHS agents detained an American citizen from Evanston for nearly two days before stranding her in Wisconsin with no way to get home. Any new DHS Secretary must commit to ending these unlawful detentions.
This week the Senate will consider a bill to help address the housing affordability crisis in America. I introduced five amendments to this bill to ensure homes are safe and affordable and to secure our financial markets from the volatility of crypto or scammers.
