the good news is that if you did it, you'd probably set up humanity for an incredibly easy journey to the stars. imagine if we fit five thousand sunlike stars between here and alpha centauri, and each of them had twenty thousand earthlike planets orbiting them, filled with shrimp to eat

in order to "save" that many shrimp you'd need to somehow spawn something like 10^90 new earths and ensure they had biospheres sufficient to support insane concentrations of shrimp
ok so the thing is this is more shrimp than the number of atoms in the universe
and it's not great that the current system charges (for a 500k house) a £15k tax on buying the house and another £15k tax on selling it — and that's if you live in a tent in the back garden while you're doing it. If not, there's a further £25k tax on the purchase.
it's hard to get this across because the British mindset is simultaneous yearning to be a landlord and hatred of those who profit from property but given how vastly unpleasant it is to live in a home undergoing a renovation, people who buy, do up, and flip homes are doing useful work
One of the benefits of the property tax proposal is that it makes buying and renovating a house *much* easier, which should - amongst other things - help the UK fix its problem of terribly insulated brick houses
