Congress must continue to fight for transparency from ICE and hold this agency accountable for any violations of the law (2/2). @repluzrivas.bsky.social @kevinmullin.house.gov @georgewhitesides.bsky.social
Yesterday, I joined 3 of my congressional colleagues on an unannounced oversight visit to the California City ICE detention facility, where there had previously been reports of abysmal conditions (1/2).
I had the pleasure to tour the @ucsantacruz.bsky.social Institute for Particle Physics yesterday, where they’re doing cutting-edge research, including in fusion energy. California institutions are leading these advancements, and it’s critical that they continue receiving federal support.
This Memorial Day, we remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this nation. We must honor them by continuing to protect the freedoms and democracy for which they gave their lives.
My Republican colleagues called a hearing on threats to the Supreme Court’s legitimacy, so I decided to read just a few examples of the $2.4 million in gifts Justice Clarence Thomas has accepted from his ultra wealthy allies:
Trump using your taxpayer dollars to compensate J6 rioters isn’t just outrageous, it’s also dangerous. It sends the signal that the next time extremists are called to violently attack Trump’s opponents, he will not only pardon them but reward them financially for their crimes.
He helped bring our country towards a more perfect union but wisely cautioned against litmus tests as the country moves forward. I'm thankful for the years I had the chance to serve with him. My thoughts are with his family.
Barney Frank was a friend and colleague. One of the brightest people to serve in the House, he was a fearless advocate with a wicked sense of humor and command of parliamentary procedure.
I was happy to recently deliver the keynote speech at Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay’s latest groundbreaking in Watsonville! This affordable housing development is a step forward for #CA18, and I will keep working in Congress to boost our housing supply.
My heart breaks for the innocent lives lost in today’s shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. No mosque and no religious congregation should ever have to fear a tragedy like this happening. Congress must act to secure places of worship and protect our communities from senseless gun violence.
America’s veterans deserve safe, high-quality dialysis services. I’m urging the @deptvetaffairs.bsky.social to meet with my office to discuss the dialysis industry’s chronic staffing shortage and the need to ensure VA contractors are providing safe environments for workers and our veterans.
Trump is trying to use your taxpayer dollars to create a fund that can be used to pay J6 insurrectionists, who stand ready to attack his adversaries again. He says we don’t have money for healthcare or childcare, but evidently we have money for his criminal friends.
BREAKING: 93 House Democrats have filed a motion to block Trump’s self-dealing settlement in his sham $10 billion IRS lawsuit, which would create a $1.7 billion slush fund for Jan. 6 rioters and political allies.
The same week that inflation had its biggest jump in 3 years, Trump says he’s not thinking about Americans’ financial situation. How much longer will congressional Republicans enable his out of touch policies?
Republicans are trying to give another $70 billion to ICE and CBP and…$1 BILLION for Trump’s ballroom. Nothing to help lower the cost of your gas, your groceries, or your healthcare.
This week, I had the opportunity to tour the new headquarters of Bay Area Community Health in San Jose. At a time when Republicans’ Big Ugly Law has threatened Americans’ healthcare, BACH has taken action to expand appointment availability and ensure consistent access to health services.
Trump says the quiet part out loud: he doesn’t care about Americans getting crushed by high gas and diesel prices. Does he care more about his ballroom than your bank account?
Trump on Iran War: Reporter: What extent are Americans’ financial situation motivating you to make a deal? Trump: Not even a little bit. I don't think about Americans’ financial situation
