Jeanne Shaheen

Cynthia Jeanne Shaheen is an American politician and former educator serving since 2009 as the senior United States senator from New Hampshire. A member of the Democratic Party, she served from 1997 to 2003 as the 78th governor of New Hampshire. Shaheen is the first woman elected both governor and a U.S. senator, and was the first female governor of New Hampshire.

I do not have confidence that Senator Mullin has the willingness or vision to undertake urgently-needed reforms at the Department of Homeland Security to rebuild trust following Secretary Noem’s disastrous tenure. My full statement on tonight's vote:
16 years ago, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law—giving tens of thousands of Granite Staters health insurance access. I'm proud of all the ACA accomplished, but the work isn’t done. We must keep fighting to lower health care costs and expand access to American families.
On World Water Day, we remember that clean drinking water is a priceless resource. With this Administration working to dismantle safeguards for clean water, we must protect the rivers, lakes and streams that supply our drinking water and provide treasured places for recreation.
Since March of last year, Americans have been forced to pay $166 billion in illegal tariff costs—with New Hampshire alone paying $510 million. The President's unlawful tariffs are costing my constituents their hard-earned dollars. This reckless trade policy must end now.
The Education Alliance of NH has for decades provided critical resources for Granite State students to help them excel. It is a travesty that President Trump’s reckless cuts have forced them to close. The President is choosing to leave New Hampshire students behind.

When it comes to Cuba, my constituents aren't asking for an incursion into yet another country. What I hear them saying is that they are worried about the high price of gas, of groceries, of housing and of child care. They want action to lower costs. Not another forever war.
From mass firings at the IRS to the cancelling of the Direct File program, the President is making it harder for the American taxpayer this season. I’m proud to have joined a bill that would save the Direct File program, which millions relied on to save time and money on their taxes.
