I represent an immigrant rich community, and I cannot fathom the fact that we are also kicking millions off healthcare and food assistance programs just to throw money at ICE in order to antagonize our immigrant communities, like with Alligator Alcatraz.
I’m a former schoolteacher and Principal and I cannot fathom the fact that children will go hungry from this bill when they go to school without eating thanks to SNAP cuts and getting kicked off free and reduced lunch.
17M will lose their health care, 5M will lose access to SNAP, 15.6M children will have free and reduced lunch impacted, 1.4M students will lose their Pell grants, and the 42M borrowers with student debt can expect increased payments—all to give tax breaks to billionaires.
🧵This is one of the most vicious, heartless, and morally bankrupt pieces of legislation I have ever seen in my time in Congress. People will die from this bill, hospitals will close, and folks will go hungry thanks to Medicaid and food assistance being cut.
It’s 8 PM and I’m here outside the Capitol speaking on why I’m voting ‘NO’ on the Big Ugly Bill. Children will go hungry because of this bill—from cuts to SNAP to students being kicked off free and reduced lunch. This bill cannot pass!
I’m voting ‘NO’ on the Big, Ugly Bill. It kicks 16 million people off their healthcare, strips millions off SNAP, all to give tax breaks to billionaires. This bill is now in the House of Representatives. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND TELL THEM TO VOTE ‘NO’: 202-224-3121
As we close out June, I want to wish everyone a Happy Caribbean American Heritage Month! South Florida is proud of its vibrant Caribbean communities—Cuban, Haitian, Bahamian, and more. This month, and every month, we celebrate their culture, contributions, and legacy.
Clean, safe water isn’t a privilege—it’s a basic human right. In committee, I recently introduced amendments to boost oversight, improve transparency, and protect our environment across the nation.
10 years ago, love won as the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. We’ve come so far in the fight for LGBTQI+ equality, but we have so much more to do! We must all keep fighting to ensure full equality under the law. #EqualityDay 🏳️‍🌈
Before these firings, members of Congress never really had to worry too much about ICE facilities. But because he fired them, members of Congress must now exercise oversight over ICE facilities.
Surfside has shown incredible strength, and I’m proud to represent such a resilient community. I remain committed to making sure a tragedy like this never happens again by ensuring robust infrastructure standards. Today and every day, we are #SurfsideStrong.
Today, we are all reminded of the tragic loss of 98 lives in the 2021 Surfside condominium collapse, a sorrowful day that forever itches in the minds of our entire community. My heart is with all who still feel the weight of that loss today.
I will continue to fight for reproductive freedom because people, not politicians, should control their reproductive health. And every person should have the resources they need to access reproductive healthcare. We cannot go back and we must fight for reproductive justice!
Three years ago, the Supreme Court dragged us back decades and let states ban abortion. With one decision, the Court erased the rights of millions. And since then, there have been relentless assaults on reproductive freedom. They turned their back on Americans, but I will not.
