Easy to miss this amid the firehose of news but the White House illegally fired a @cwaunion.bsky.social member working at the NLRB — the body that holds CEOs accountable for abusing workers. This is a slap in the face to America's workers. Add it to the list we're fighting back on.
President Trump firing @nlrbgov.bsky.social member Gwynne Wilcox, the first Black woman on the Board, is illegal and has effectively shut down the NLRB’s operations, leaving the workers it defends on their own. aflcio.org/press/releas...
This is how we fight back against Trump and the Republicans' funding freeze that harms Rhode Island. Thank you @peterneronha.bsky.social for standing in the breach of this unlawful, chaotic power grab by the President.
AG Neronha co-leads 23 AGs in suing to stop Trump Admin. from withholding essential federal funding in US District Court for the District of RI. "Any pause to federal funding programs would have immediate and catastrophic effects for RIers and Americans everywhere" www.riag.ri.gov/press-releas...
As a member of the Science, Space, & Technology Committee, I helped kick off the RI Life Science Hub’s Neuroscience Symposium to showcase our state’s leadership in biomedical innovation. In the wake of potential funding freezes, supporting this life-changing research has never been more important.
From a Head Start provider in #RI01: “Yesterday, we initiated a $500k drawdown as we have payroll on Thursday. It should’ve been deposited in our bank. It’s not in our account and we’re unable to log in to check on the status.” This is what chaos looks like. End the Trump funding freeze now.
5/ Our higher education communities — including students, faculty, and researchers — are calling about grant review panels. This includes lifesaving funding through the National Institutes of Health to tackle cancers, chronic illness, and other critical areas.
4/ The Ocean State Center for Independent Living supports over 28,000 individuals with disabilities. Without federal funds appropriated by Congress, they can’t carry out their essential work.
3/ States locked out of Medicaid funds would mean shutting down health care resources for the poor, the disabled, and those with complex medical needs. Hard to overstate how important these funds are for Rhode Islanders who need them.
2/ Organizations like the Warren Prevention Coalition are locked out of the grants system for funding they are owed. This funding is critical to preventing substance use disorder and supporting Rhode Islanders struggling with opioid addition.
Washington can feel distant for many back home. Today is not one of those days. Our phones have been ringing off the hook with people calling about what Donald Trump’s federal funding freeze means for Rhode Island. Here are some examples in a 🧵:
The 2025 tax filing season is starting today with the IRS accepting federal individual tax year 2024 returns from now until April 15th. Make sure to avoid scams by using a trusted tax professional.    Find out more on how to file at irs.gov
Excited to break ground on REGENT Craft’s new manufacturing facility today at Quonset.  The team in this facility will build all-electric seagliders — creating jobs, driving innovation, and growing our state’s Blue Economy.
Thank you to the Jewish Alliance of Greater RI & the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center for hosting a screening of “The Monument” ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day tomorrow. As we reflect tomorrow & beyond, we must learn from the past to confront hate wherever we find it.
Visited Bristol Art Museum for “Parallel Threads: Entangled Ends,” a bi-national exhibit led by RI’s own Deborah Baronas and Australian historian Dr. Janis Hanley. Got to see several other RI artists too, highlighting local history & global stories of textile manufacturing.
Always a pleasure to see some Rhode Island faces in DC!    Thank you to the students from Portsmouth High School for stopping by our office to discuss how Congress is delivering for Rhode Islanders, growing our economy, and acting on climate.
As Vice Ranking Member of @houseforeign.bsky.social, I’ll continue to support our alliances, strengthen U.S. diplomatic efforts, and fight against proposals counter to our values.
RM @Meeks.house.gov: Yesterday, we held the organizational meeting for the 119th Congress. I'm proud to stand with my colleagues as we continue to champion human rights, democracy and diplomacy. Together, we'll advance the Committee's critical work for the American people.
Trump's decision to exit the World Health Organization increases our vulnerability to disease outbreaks both at home and globally.   With bird flu cases on the rise and increased spread of infectious diseases here at home, we need more engagement with our allies and international health partners.
Trump tossed the pandemic playbook in his 1st term—we saw the cost. Now he’s exiting the WHO, undermining our ability to fight the next pandemic & ceding US influence to adversaries. Rather than learn from his mistakes, he’s doubling down on them, putting American lives at risk.
