Richard Blumenthal

Richard Blumenthal is an American politician and attorney serving as the senior United States senator from the state of Connecticut. A member of the Democratic Party, he has been a member of the Senate since 2011. Blumenthal previously served as U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut, as a member of the Connecticut General Assembly, and as the 23rd Connecticut attorney general.

Thanks to Trump’s war with Iran, U.S. flagged & U.S. crewed commercial vessels are currently trapped in the Persian Gulf. I’ve written to Admiral Cooper, demanding action be taken to protect & support these crews as they sail under sustained operational & psychological stress.
Sickeningly, shamefully stupid—lifting sanctions on oil sales by Russia & Iran, fueling their war machines with windfall cash. A minimal benefit to oil prices, but huge boost to sworn enemies.
Once again, Trump is showing that he cares more about Mark Zuckerberg, Sam Altman & his Silicon Valley cronies than American families. This weak proposal is dead-on-arrival in the Senate—I & my Democratic colleagues will block it.
States have passed groundbreaking laws, on a bipartisan basis, to stop child exploitation, require transparency & protect civil rights & civil liberties. This proposal blocks those state laws & offers very few actual enforceable federal rules on AI companies.
As March Madness kicks off, wishing the best of luck to the UConn men’s & women’s basketball teams & the Fairfield women’s basketball team! Excited to cheer on the athletes as they demonstrate why our state is the basketball capital of the world.
This $200 billion Supplemental seems like a total nonstarter. It supports a deeply unpopular war that Trump has never asked Congress to approve, as Constitutionally required—without clear statement of objectives or strategy, disclosure of accurate cost info, or public hearings.
The ticketing market is broken. Congress should set national rules protecting consumers in the primary & secondary markets, such as my BOSS & SWIFT Act. As important, it’s time to break up Ticketmaster. 5

As we confront a growing energy crisis that reveals how vulnerable we are to relying on fossil fuels, this stable source of reliable & renewable energy will power the region for decades to come.
