Families across Ventura County and the Conejo Valley are feeling the squeeze. Trump’s tariffs and Republicans’ economic agenda will only make it harder to pay the bills, save for the future, and get ahead.
While Republicans cut food assistance and health care to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy, Democrats are fighting to lower grocery and health care costs, protect coverage, and make caregiving more affordable for working families.
While Trump dismisses the housing crisis as “a big yawn” and says he wants to keep housing prices high, Democrats are fighting to build more housing, lower mortgage and rental costs, rein in corporate landlords, and make homeownership more attainable.
Trump’s tariffs, his war in Iran, and the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” are putting even more pressure on household budgets while handing tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations.

More than a year into his second term, families are paying more for the essentials they need every day.
I am deeply grateful to have known Len personally and to have heard firsthand about his life experiences. He was a wonderful neighbor, a gifted storyteller, and an inspiration to us all. His extraordinary life and legacy of service will remain forever in our hearts.
From organizing local D-Day commemorations to opening his doors so others could learn about this important chapter in our history, Len’s service to his country continued long after his time in uniform.
After the war, Len made Thousand Oaks his home, where he lived with extraordinary humility, compassion, and dedication to others.
Len survived all 36 missions of his combat tour, including two flights on D-Day, serving alongside American and Allied forces during the Battle of Normandy. For his extraordinary heroism and service, Len was awarded the Silver Star, among other distinctions.
Our community mourns the loss of a remarkable patriot and true American hero. Len Zerlin, one of Ventura County’s last surviving World War II veterans, recently passed away at the age of 102.
In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, no one should have to choose between getting the healthcare they need and keeping a roof over their head or putting food on the table. That is why House Democrats will keep fighting to lower costs and expand access to quality, affordable healthcare.
They are willing to throw $70 billion at Trump’s war in Iran, but refuse to do a single thing to address the healthcare affordability crisis they created. Their reckless policies are putting healthcare further out of reach for millions of hardworking Americans.
Everyday costs are rising, and Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are only making the crisis worse.
Last year, Republicans cut over $1.5 trillion from Medicaid and Medicare to give billionaires a tax cut. Healthcare costs skyrocketed, 5 million Americans were forced to drop their coverage, and up to 10 million more are expected to lose Medicaid coverage by 2028.
