Union membership is a driver for helping workers realize the American dream. I'm standing up for workers' rights with national leaders, and fighting back against Donald Trump's illegal attack on federal employees' collective bargaining rights.
Elon Musk has called Social Security "a Ponzi scheme." He wants to "eliminate" it, he says. As my friend @petebuttigieg.bsky.social put it, "They are breaking Social Security, because they do not like Social Security." I will be fighting like hell to stop them. We need to keep the pressure up.
We've heard concerning things about the Social Security Administration lately, so I decided to check for myself. SSA says Wednesday is the best day to call, so I called then. Their system told me there would be a two-hour wait time, told me to call back, and then just hung up.
Amid bird flu and measles outbreaks, Trump and RFK Jr. are making a dangerous purge of health workers and bringing in a team of kooks, loons, and weirdos. They’re gutting health agencies to put money into billionaires’ pockets. The American people will suffer harmful consequences if this happens.
Statement from @beyer.house.gov on RFK Jr.'s mass firings of health workers beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA) today issued the following statement on the mass firing of 10,000 federal workers at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS):

“Amid major health challenges, including outbreaks of bird flu and measles Trump and RFK Jr. are undertaking an extreme and dangerous purge of health and medical expertise from the Department of Health and Human Services.

“They’re taking a hatchet to medical research for cures to diseases and gutting the workforce that administers Medicare and Medicaid and supports individuals with disabilities and new moms. And they’re drastically undercutting our ability to fight future epidemics, if they should arise, and present-day health crises including the opioid epidemic and massive strains on America’s mental health infrastructure.

“I am also horrified to see the functional elimination of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, our point agency on research to improve the health care delivery and efficiency, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the Health Resources and Services Administration, which leads efforts to improve access to care for the uninsured. They’re making these cuts to essential health-providing agencies to put more money into billionaires’ pockets.

“Meanwhile RFK Jr. is bringing in a team of kooks, loons, and weirdos to throw out sound science on vaccines that has saved tens of millions of lives. The American people will undoubtedly suffer harmful consequences if this plan is carried out.”
The Secretary of Defense was apparently too busy yesterday lying to the American people about his illegal disclosure of classified information to brief the President, who was clueless hours later about the loss of four American soldiers near the Belarusian border.
Trump is completely oblivious that 4 US troops died in Lithuania
State and DoD IGs should be reinstated and investigate along with the acting ICIG. DOJ and the FBI would normally investigate such breaches and prosecute any crimes committed. Bondi and Patel can't do that without political interference, so a special counsel should be appointed for this case. 10/10
Investment is on pause. Your 401K is down. Uncertainty is up. The Wall Street Journal called it the dumbest trade war in history. When they're right, they're right. This Committee should be leading the charge to protect the economy from a tariff program that will make us poorer and kill jobs.
Not just Hegseth, as I said yesterday. But the confirmation (which was never in doubt) that the information he put in the chat was classified makes it, as I said, not a close call. bsky.app/profile/beye...
Congress and other proper authorities must provide oversight of this incredibly stupid security breach. At a minimum, Hegseth, Waltz, Gabbard, and Witkoff must resign or be fired. And a special counsel should be appointed to investigate. My statement: beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
Beyer Calls For Resignations Of Top Trump Administration Officials Over Massive Security Breach
Beyer also calls for “robust” investigation, including appointment of special counsel
March 25, 2025 (Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA), who represents a Northern Virginia district in the U.S. House that includes the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency, today called for the resignations of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in the wake of reporting by The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg that they and other Trump officials discussed military strikes on Yemen over Signal:

We need robust investigations by committees of jurisdiction to determine where other breaches may have occurred and take appropriate action. Republicans who fail to stand for their country in this moment will forever surrender all credibility on national security issues. 9/
