Genesis is only 19 years old, but when her mother was kidnapped by ICE, she was left with no choice but to care for her younger sister, pay the family’s bills, and do all this while going to school. We cannot allow ICE to continue tearing families apart.
In Chicago, we held small business and education roundtables to hear directly from the communities how ramped up ICE action is affecting them. What we heard was heartbreaking, but there were also such incredible stories of resilience, and of folks coming together to take care of their neighbors.
Today, I hosted the fourth shadow hearing in my series Kidnapped and Disappeared focusing on Trump’s assault on Chicago. We must continue to shine a light on the unlawful and inhumane way this administration is treating immigrants across the country.
The fact that nineteen members of Congress from across the country traveled to Chicago to join our shadow hearing is a testament to Democrats’ commitment to fight back against Trump and ICE’s lawlessness and cruelty. We won’t stop working to get justice and accountability.
Trump said he would go after the “worst of the worst.” Yet, according to ICE’s own data, most of the immigrants detained have no criminal record, and US citizens are being snatched off the street. This is a threat to our democracy, our liberty, and our safety.
Thanks to the Republican Shutdown, funding for some Head Start programs runs out on Nov 1, which will force schools to shut down and leave thousands of families without childcare. I’m fighting for place like Educare to ensure they have the resources they need to stay open.
I visited @flysea.bsky.social to meet with staff who have been affected by the Republican shut down. So many folks are working without pay, and wondering when or if their next paycheck will come. It’s time for Republicans to end this shutdown now.
During this Republican shutdown, groups across the country like @foodlifeline.bsky.social are stepping up to the plate to keep food on the table for workers missing pay. This is such critical work – but it shouldn’tbe necessary. It’s time for Republicans to come to the table and end this.
I’ve introduced proposals to reinforce that ICE cannot detain US citizens — every single time they’ve come up, Republicans have voted them down. This is dangerous for all Americans and a violation of our rights. www.theroot.com/house-republ...
The government has been shut down for 22 days — and House Republicans have been on vacation since Speaker Johnson sent them home over a month ago. It is time for Republicans to come to the table, end this shutdown, and protect health care for American families.
Last night, I hosted my second town hall during this Republican shutdown. Hundreds of people joined to hear updates and ask questions as Republicans continue to refuse to stand up for health care. Thank you to everyone who came out!
Yet another immigration judge was fired by the Trump administration, despite a backlog of 3.4 million cases nationwide. This is Trump taking aim at legal pathways to immigration, not targeting the ‘worst of the worst.’ www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
