Congress has been slow to respond to the AI revolution and in the absence of a strong federal response, states are taking the lead to create guardrails and protect the public. Trump’s attempt to undo this progress without providing any federal regulatory protections would be extremely harmful.
President Trump’s AI order is an attempt to kill responsible safety reforms passed by states, which would create a lawless Wild West environment for AI companies that puts Americans at risk. This is a terrible idea. My statement:
Trump calling affordability a 'hoax' won’t change that grocery, energy, housing, and health care costs continue to burden Americans. There's still time to negotiate a plan to extend ACA tax credits and stop health care costs from skyrocketing. Republicans should get it done.
Wonderful joining the bright young leaders at BASIS Independent McLean to discuss our work in Congress and how we can rise above polarization to get things done for the American people.
The Trump Administration is doubling down on making life more expensive for the American people. To add to the growing list of ways they’re squeezing Americans, they’re trying to kill the most affordable repayment option for student loan borrowers.
Big change for student loan borrowers: The Education Department has proposed a legal settlement that would end the SAVE repayment plan. More than 7 million borrowers have been in limbo for over a year, with payments paused since June 2024, interest restarting in August. Read more: bit.ly/4p39KIx
Republicans have no idea what to do. They've been promising a health care plan for 16 years and never offered one. They could pass everything on this list and it wouldn't stop catastrophic health care cost increases for the American people.
Today, Rep. Don Beyer, Sen. Peter Welch and I are introducing a bill to expand ranked choice voting to all elections for Congress. RCV assures that winners have majority support, no candidate acts as a “spoiler,” and the voting process favors positive coalition-building.
There are communist countries and dictatorships that don't treat Americans this way. Trump is doing it to citizens of our close allies. A lot of tourists understandably won't trust Trump's thought police with that information. They'll stay away, and our economy will suffer.
The Trump administration plans to require all foreign tourists to provide their social media histories from the last five years to enter the country, according to a notice published in the Federal Register. Read more: nbcnews.to/4ppCNXz
Rapid data center construction to meet power demands from AI platforms is driving electricity prices up sharply, while Republicans' big bill slows the construction of energy projects. Our bill would generate policy changes to lower costs for the American people.
Americans are seeing higher energy bills because of AI data centers. Our bill with Representative Don Beyer will protect families and small businesses from these rising costs.
Trump's tariffs are raising prices for the American people. They're also crushing American farmers. Now Trump's trying to keep farmers happy with a bailout of billions of dollars in taxpayer money. Republicans could stop this and end Trump's trade wars, but they're afraid to.
Medicaid cuts from Republicans' Big Ugly bill already threatened the closure of hundreds rural hospitals. And now, the increased costs of Trump’s H-1B visa restrictions are putting even more pressure on already understaffed rural health care facilities.
Two months after President Donald Trump signed an executive order restricting H-1B visas, soaring costs are roiling rural health care facilities that have long struggled to find staff.
Hepatitis B vaccination has been recommended for all newborns since 1991. It led to a 99% reduction in pediatric infections and liver diseases caused by the virus have dropped dramatically. This is a terrible decision. Babies could develop liver infection or die as a result.
BREAKING: Vaccine panel appointed by RFK Jr. votes to roll back newborn hepatitis B vaccine recommendations, upending years of CDC guidance and public health consensus.
ACA tax credits expire at the end of the month, and Republicans still have no plan – but Democrats do. Our discharge petition would force a vote to stop health care costs from skyrocketing for millions of Americans. We just need a few Republicans to get this done.
KERNEN: Does Mike Johnson have a healthcare plan? REP. JASON SMITH: Um. Yesterday he said that we're working on a plan CNBC HOSTS: ... ... ...
