I stand ready and willing to work on a bill that keeps government open without compromising our American values or constitutional protections. Even if that’s a partisan idea in this moment.

In the last 24 hours, I have been in contact with Senate Democrats urging them to oppose this package. I am encouraged by Leader Schumer’s suggestion that they will.
In essence, Speaker Johnson is gambling that the Senators are cut from the same shoddy moral cloth that he wears every day.
The Senate does not have to take that bait. They are better than Mike Johnson, and this is their chance to prove it.
That bill then passed the House, but even worse, Speaker Johnson structured the version of that bill we sent to the Senate to include all remaining appropriations bills, forcing Senators to choose between shutting down the government or else endorsing jackbooted assaults on our democracy.
Three days ago, I opposed a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security because it did not put an end to ICE’s lawlessness.
People have asked what can be done in the wake of the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Congress has the power of the purse. We must use it.
The entire Trump White House is complicit. Every Member of Congress who voted for a massive increase in ICE funding last summer is complicit. Every Republican in the House who watched Renee Good’s murder & refused to demand Speaker Johnson conduct oversight is complicit. It is eternally damning.
I have seen the video of ICE’s latest shooting. It is sickening. It was an execution. The Trump Administration will undoubtedly concoct a story to justify their crimes. Do not believe them.
There’s still time to participate in my Valentines card drive for local veterans. A simple message of appreciation can brighten the day of someone who has served our nation. Please drop off your cards by February 5th and join us in honoring our veterans this Valentine’s Day.

I had the privilege of recognizing Mrs. Sondra LaPointe, a seventh-grade teacher at Westview Hills Middle School, as my Constituent Spotlight honoree.
Sondra is instilling a strong educational foundation and excitement for learning in our future leaders, which our world needs now more than ever.
The Department of Homeland Security funding bill to be considered by the House today does not rein in the lawless conduct from ICE. The American people deserve better.
I'm voting NO. (2/2)
Congress, having the power of the purse, has an opportunity to respond to the murder and baseless arrests of American citizens, the cruel and inhumane conditions detainees are subjected to, and the denial of due process to both citizens and non-citizens. (1/2)

This morning, I attended arguments at the Supreme Court in the Trump Administration's case to fire Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve.
To be clear, Lisa Cook did nothing wrong, and the independence of the Federal Reserve must be maintained.
But this case is about so much more than that.
It’s been a year since Trump has taken office.
Costs are up across health care, energy, and groceries.
Spread some love this Valentine’s Day! My office is collecting Valentine’s cards for local veterans, and we need your help to make their day special. Drop off your cards by February 5th and join us in honoring those who’ve served our country.
Donald Trump doesn’t hate clean energy; he hates energy you can actually afford. Clean energy is affordable energy. The president wants you to pay more while fossil fuels destroy your health and our planet.
After learning the Trump Admin planned to cut funding for mental health care & addiction services, I joined colleagues in furiously lobbying HHS to change course.
I'm proud to see that our efforts were successful, but it's shameful that this was considered at all.

Alongside Sen. Dick Durbin and Sen. Tammy Duckworth, I’m pleased to announce $4M in federal funding for the College of DuPage to expand short-term, for-credit aviation and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) workforce certificates.
The Trump Administration will no longer consider whether or not you will die from pollution when setting emissions standards. Absurd.
