Nearly 500,000 Philadelphians rely on SNAP to put food on the table. That's why, alongside @congressmanboyle.bsky.social, @scanlon.house.gov, @repjordanharris.com and Rep. Krajewski, I called on the Trump administration to obey federal district court rulings and FULLY fund November SNAP benefits.

As Pennie open enrollment begins today, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians are seeing their premiums skyrocket or getting priced out of health care coverage altogether. House Democrats want to extend ACA tax credits to STOP this shutdown of health care. Why don't most House Republicans?
THE REPUBLICAN HEALTH CARE CRISIS IS RAISING ANNUAL HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS BY $28,680 FOR A 60 YEAR OLD COUPLE MAKING $82,000 A YEAR IN PENNSYLVANIA.
If the Trump administration cruelly and illegally chooses to withhold SNAP payments tomorrow, 2 million Pennsylvanians won’t receive the food assistance they’re counting on. I applaud Governor Shapiro’s swift actions to help Pennsylvanians in need at this time.
So, Trump decided that a $40 billion bailout to his right-wing foreign ally was “essential,” but feeding 42 million Americans- including 16 million children, 8 million seniors, and 1.2 million veterans isn’t. Is this what "America First" looks like in practice?
Trump called a $40 billion foreign bailout “essential” but is illegally choosing not to use billions in SNAP contingency funds to feed hungry Americans
“I’m scared,” Deardra, a Philly child care provider & @afscme.bsky.social member, told me. Deardra is one of the millions of Americans who rely on the ACA tax credits to afford their health care. Stories like hers are exactly why I am fighting to protect these tax credits.
Republicans weaponizing hunger: Trump refuses to use billions of dollars in the SNAP contingency fund, Senate Republicans block a bill to fund SNAP & WIC, and the House can’t even pass a bill to fund SNAP because it’s Day 41 of Speaker Johnson keeping us out of voting session. #GOPShutdown
BREAKING: Democrats just tried to pass a standalone bill to fund WIC & SNAP to make sure families don't go hungry during the Republican shutdown. Republicans BLOCKED it. So Trump won't use emergency funds to keep SNAP running, and Republicans won't let any bills pass. Shameful.
“Funds are available for [SNAP] program operations even in the event of a government shutdown"- This was DIRECTLY from Trump's USDA- but they deleted it from the website. Trump isn't trying to “mitigate harm.” He's illegally choosing not to pay November SNAP benefits & covering it up!
Q: In the last Trump shutdown, he made sure SNAP benefits went out. Why do you think he shouldn't do that this time? MIKE JOHNSON: The president has done exactly what he did in the first term, and that is bend over backward to make sure we mitigate the harm. The money doesn't exist to do it.
Trump already canceled 94 million pounds of aid for food banks AND cut $186 billion in SNAP funding in his Big Ugly law. Now he refuses to fund Nov. SNAP benefits for 42 million Americans. Even before the shutdown, feeding hungry families wasn't a priority for Trump.
Trump’s HUGE to do list:
Cut $186 billion from SNAP (checked)
Cancel 94 million pounds of aid for food banks (checked)
Use billions in contingency funds to keep benefits going (crossed out in red ink)
Let 42 million Americans go hungry (checked)
Millions of Americans are about to see their premiums skyrocket, millions more are on the brink of hunger, our air traffic controllers & other federal workers just missed their paychecks... and House Republicans are on day 40 of their vacation. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
House Republicans have been on vacation for 40 days
