1 in 4 kids rely on SNAP food assistance benefits.
Those children will go hungry this November because Republicans shut down the government and Trump refuses to use contingency funds to keep this program running.
We're on day 28 of the Republican shutdown.
Yet, House Republicans are STILL on vacation, even as 3 million Floridians, 3 million Texans, and millions more, in red and blue states, will lose their food assistance next week. It's time to come to the table and end this shutdown.
Pastor David Black was attacked by ICE while praying for immigrants.
During our shadow hearing in Chicago, he shared his story, his fight, and his demand that we all continue to work to protect immigrant communities.
Republicans have handed over their Congressional authority to Trump, and he is taking that blank check to kill people in the Caribbean.
This is not only unconstitutional, it is a moral stain on our country.
This weekend, I received notice of the 21st death of a person in ICE custody since Trump took office.
These mostly private, for-profit detention centers put their profits over people’s health and safety. There must be increased oversight and accountability.
Today is the 27th day of the Republican Shutdown, and Trump just announced that he will not fund food assistance next month — leaving 42 million Americans to go hungry.
He said it himself, he wants to “inflict maximum pain on Americans.”
I was in Chicago last week with nineteen of my Democratic colleagues to hear directly from people who have been terrorized by ICE.
People are being kidnapped off the streets by masked agents. It is unlawful and unacceptable.
Mike Johnson is handing Congress's constitutional power over to Trump.
We are 27 days into this Republican shutdown, and he still refuses to lead or to serve as a check on the executive branch.

At this week’s shadow hearing in Chicago, we heard from Lawrence Benito, the Executive Director at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, about the work he is doing to protect immigrants, and what he has seen from ICE.
Listen to his story:
Thanks to the Republican shutdown, 42 million Americans will lose their food assistance next month.
Republicans are hell bent on making Americans poorer, sicker, and hungrier.

Genesis is only 19 years old, but when her mother was kidnapped by ICE, she was left with no choice but to care for her younger sister, pay the family’s bills, and do all this while going to school.
We cannot allow ICE to continue tearing families apart.
In Chicago, we held small business and education roundtables to hear directly from the communities how ramped up ICE action is affecting them.
What we heard was heartbreaking, but there were also such incredible stories of resilience, and of folks coming together to take care of their neighbors.
Today’s shadow hearing in Chicago was heartbreaking, powerful, and yet another reminder of how we must all stand with our immigrant communities as they are terrorized by this administration.

Today, I hosted the fourth shadow hearing in my series Kidnapped and Disappeared focusing on Trump’s assault on Chicago.
We must continue to shine a light on the unlawful and inhumane way this administration is treating immigrants across the country.

“When you undermine the rights and the protections of one group of people you undermine them for every single person."
🎥 Watch @jayapal.house.gov's remarks from the shadow hearing "Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump’s Assault on Chicago.”
The fact that nineteen members of Congress from across the country traveled to Chicago to join our shadow hearing is a testament to Democrats’ commitment to fight back against Trump and ICE’s lawlessness and cruelty.
We won’t stop working to get justice and accountability.
Americans want a functioning immigration system that lets our immigrant communities live, work, and contribute to our communities.
Democrats are working to make that a reality.
Trump said he would go after the “worst of the worst.” Yet, according to ICE’s own data, most of the immigrants detained have no criminal record, and US citizens are being snatched off the street.
This is a threat to our democracy, our liberty, and our safety.
Today, I am in Chicago, where Trump announced that the military would use the city as “training grounds.”
I am here to stand with Chicago and against Trump’s abuses of power.
I’m in Chicago, hosting a shadow hearing on Trump’s unlawful immigration actions.
