I am deeply concerned to learn that Medicaid portals are shut down in all 50 states including New York. Nearly 7 million adults & children in NYS rely on this for health care coverage.
This means missed payrolls & rent. No funding for school meal programs, housing support or health care assistance. It takes away public safety resources & so much more. We're supposed to be lowering costs & putting food on the table for families. This directive does the opposite.
The White House is freezing TRILLIONS in community grants & financial support. I have been hearing from my constituents all day & their concerns about what this will mean. While we're continuing to learn more, here is what you need to know right now:
Proud to lead a bipartisan resolution marking the liberation of Auschwitz & honoring the innocent lives lost during the Holocaust with Rep. Lois Frankel, Rep. Mike Lawler, & Congressman Don Bacon. We must stand united against the rise in antisemitism in the US & around the world.
On #HolocaustRemembranceDay we remember the 6 million Jews & millions of others who were systematically & brutally murdered by the Nazi regime. We must continue to give the words #NeverAgain power & stand firmly against antisemitism whenever we are confronted with it.
Iraqi lawmakers passed a bill legalizing child marriages as young as 9 years old. 9-year-old girls should be in school, making friends, and enjoying their childhood. Forced marriages rob them of their youth, rights, safety, and a self-determined future. apnews.com/article/iraq...
The NIH is the largest funder of biomedical research, especially cancer research, worldwide. Trump's executive order pausing research grant reviews, meetings, and hiring at the NIH will stunt our advancements and break throughs in health care long into the future.
In his first week at the White House, the president signed an executive order defunding infrastructure projects across the country. Now communities like Queens will miss out on millions of bipartisan dollars meant to repave roads, rebuild bridges, and deliver clean water.
Write a valentine to a vet! This year, I'm proud to partner with Council Member Lynn Schulman & Congressman Gregory Meeks to send valentines to veterans & service members. Write & send your note by February 7th. Every message makes a difference❤️ Details👇
Know your rights. With increased ICE activity anticipated, here are some key resources from the National Immigration Law Center that you can use to protect yourself. Translations are available in Arabic, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Korean, Tagalog, Vietnamese, & Spanish. www.nilc.org/resources/kn...
Mobile Office Hours: January 27th My team & I are hosting mobile office hours with Council Member Francisco Moya on Monday, January 27, 11:00am-1:00pm. Stop by to ask questions & receive assistance with federal agencies like the VA, IRS, Social Security, & more. Address & details👇
Thousands of Queens residents are diagnosed with cancer each year. I was proud to support this landmark investment in our borough's first comprehensive cancer center at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. We are bringing world-class cancer care to those who need it most.
52 years ago, Roe v Wade affirmed the constitutional right to an abortion. SCOTUS overturned this landmark decision leaving millions without the right to make decisions about their bodies. Attacks on reproductive care continue, but we must fight to restore our rights.
On day one, Donald Trump signed an executive order to raise prices on Rx drugs for Americans on Medicare & Medicaid. Lowering everyday costs is a priority in Queens & the new administration has yet to show us a plan to help hardworking families save money. www.newsweek.com/donald-trump...
Birthright citizenship is protected by the 14th Amendment and I'm glad to see New York fighting back against this unconstitutional order. I'm ready to work across the aisle on real bipartisan reforms that can fix our broken immigration system. apnews.com/article/birt...
"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." On #MLKDay, we must honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy by recommitting ourselves to his fight for peace, justice, and equality for all.
