Met with Rhode Islanders from the American College of Nursing about the pressures they’re facing in hospitals and clinics. We need to invest in nursing education, address staffing shortages, and ensure these frontline heroes have the resources to provide quality care.
Moms traveling w/ kids have enough to worry about. They shouldn’t worry about their babies’ food being contaminated during a TSA screening. I support the Bottles & Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Act to ensure TSA follows good practices when handling breast milk or formula.
Everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home—& in Rhode Island, our historic mill buildings can be part of the solution. I just intro'd a bill to improve the Historic Tax Credit, so we can turn more of these buildings into new housing & help tackle the housing crisis.
The Chinese government’s persecution of Uyghurs is a humanitarian crisis. We must pass the Uyghur Human Rights Protection Act to expedite refugee status for those fleeing oppression and give them a pathway to safety in the U.S.
One of the most common-sense steps we can take to reduce gun violence is raising the age to purchase an assault rifle from 18 to 21. 21 is already the age for handguns. I’m proudly backing the Raise the Age Act to put in place this basic safeguard & prevent more mass shootings.
Caregivers do the necessary, often overlooked, work to be there for their loved ones. They need a little extra help. I’m backing the Credit for Caring Act to provide up to a $5K tax credit to help ease the burden on family caregivers & help them keep up w/ the cost of their work.
The Washington Bridge closure has had a huge impact on RIers. Along with my colleagues in the RI CODEL, we secured $220 million for a new bridge, & now those funds are on their way. This is a big step toward easing traffic, helping local businesses, & getting us moving again.
Fishing supports thousands of jobs in the Ocean State, yet we don't have a voice on one of the most important committees that regulates the RI fishing industry. Our bill will add RI to the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, giving our state’s fishermen a seat at the table.
The Trump Admin’s senior leadership has shown a shocking lack of understanding for how to handle sensitive information. As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, I’m joining colleagues to urge Sec. Noem to keep sensitive information safe at the Dept. of Homeland Security.
Enjoyed meeting with North Kingstown High School students as part of the Close Up Washington program, which gives young people a hands-on look at government. We talked public service, democracy, and the issues they care about most. The future’s in good hands!
Great meeting with RI members of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals!  Everyone deserves fair access to homeownership, and I am committed to making sure all Rhode Island families can build wealth and stability.
Just met with the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons — because expanding access to quality, affordable health care must include dental and surgical care too.  Rhode Islanders deserve access to quality care when they need it.
Rhode Island’s natural beauty is part of who we are—and it’s on us to protect it. I enjoyed talking with the RI Garden Club about conservation, climate resilience, and keeping the Ocean State green for the next generation. 🌱
NEW: The Homeland Security CTI Subcommittee just passed my bill directing DHS to better protect people in the US from foreign governments like Iran, Russia, & China trying to silence their advocacy. We must remain a safe haven for those fleeing persecution.
Joining my colleagues with a resolution to honor the 204-year anniversary of Greek Independence. 🇬🇷 Rhode Island’s vibrant Greek-American community is living proof of the continued bond of partnership and democratic values that link Greece and the United States.
Rhode Island has one of the highest MS diagnosis rates in the US—and if you or a loved one has it, you know how tough it can be. I sat down with Rhode Islanders from the Multiple Sclerosis Society in DC to talk about how we can team up to deliver better care and more support.
