Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Patricia Pelosi is an American politician who was the 52nd speaker of the United States House of Representatives, serving from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the first woman elected U.S. House speaker and the first woman to lead a major political party in either chamber of Congress, heading the House Democrats from 2003 to 2023. Her 20 years as a House party leader are tied with Joe Martin's as the second-longest after Sam Rayburn. Pelosi is in her 20th term, having served in the House since 1987, representing California's 11th congressional district, which includes most of San Francisco. She is the dean of California's congressional delegation.

As we return to DC, Republicans are doubling down on plans to take food away from children, seniors and Veterans while ramming through cuts to Medicaid. After two weeks back home hearing from those we serve, Democrats are unified and ready to use every tool to stop the GOP scheme.
It was my honor to be a part of the Congressional delegation attending the funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis today to help convey the thoughts, prayers and deep sympathies of the American people on his passing.
The success of City Build has launched thousands of careers in construction, uplifted Bay Area families and transformed San Francisco's skyline. Having stood with CityBuild since day one, it was an especially meaningful honor to join their 20th anniversary celebration yesterday.
It is essential that we continue to shine a bright light on this dark chapter of history. In 2019, the Democratic House formally recognized the Armenian Genocide—an historic and long-overdue acknowledgment of truth and a lasting commitment to human rights.
On Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, we honor the 1.5 million Armenians senselessly killed in a horrific genocide 110 years ago. I had the solemn honor of visiting the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial in 2022 to pay respects to the victims of this atrocity.
Today, I joined Bay Area small business owners during Democrats' Cost of Living Week of Action to expose how Trump’s reckless tariffs are harming San Franciscans and hardworking families across the country. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy—and they deserve better.
On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and honor the survivors. As we mourn, we reaffirm our commitment to combat antisemitism and ensure such evil is never again repeated.
Honored to join Vice President Al Gore, Mayor Daniel Lurie and climate leaders yesterday at the Exploratorium to kick off San Francisco Climate Week. We must keep fighting for solutions to combat the climate crisis with science and justice. Our children’s future depends on it.
On #EarthDay, we reaffirm our duty to defend God’s creation, our planet, our home. While environmental protections are rolled back and science ignored, we must stand firm. The air our children breathe & water they drink depend on a clean environment and every attack on them puts our future at risk.
Many of us who met His Holiness know that he would always say, “Pray for me.” Now, we will pray to him and pledge to carry on his towering legacy. May he rest in peace.
It was my high honor to attend his installation on the Feast of Saint Joseph in 2013 and to be in the House chamber during his historic address to the Congress in 2015. In San Francisco, we take special pride in Pope Francis, as he shares the namesake of our City.
It is with immense sadness that Paul and I join our fellow Catholics and people of faith around the world in mourning the loss of His Holiness Pope Francis: a beacon of charity, hope and love for all people of faith.
In this holy season of Passover and Easter, may we reflect on our many blessings of faith, family and community. From my family to yours, wishing you a Happy Easter today!
Met with leaders from @uptecwa.bsky.social this week in San Francisco to hear concerns from UC frontline workers who help power our health care and research systems. They deserve fair wages and stability, and I’ll continue supporting paths to substantive progress at the negotiating table.
Calling all San Francisco high school artists! The deadline for this year’s Congressional Art Competition is rapidly approaching. The winning piece will hang in the U.S. Capitol! Find out more at pelosi.house.gov/youth-kids/c...
Eighteen years ago, tragedy struck Virginia Tech when a gunman stole the lives of 32 innocent souls and wounded 17 more. Today, our hearts remain heavy as we honor the memory of the victims, the courage of the survivors and the strength of the Hokie community.
On the #SaveSocialSecurity Day of Action, I joined Bay Area leaders to lift the voices of over 109,000 San Franciscans who rely on Social Security. While Republicans are cutting Social Security to give billionaires tax breaks, Democrats are fighting to preserve your earned benefits.
It's #TaxDay and millions of Americans are using a free, simple way to file their returns — thanks to Democrats. To make the process easier, we passed legislation in 2022 to create Direct File, a free online way to submit your return. directfile.irs.gov
