NW Oregon: I’m holding a telephone town hall meeting with Democracy Forward next Monday, March 31, at 6pm. I’ll be joined by a representative from Democracy Forward, a legal organization that is fighting the Trump administration’s executive orders and actions in courts across the country.
It was great to join Ken Boddie on KOIN’s Eye on NW Politics to talk about Trump’s illegal order to dismantle the Department of Education, the purge of workers from the Department of Health and Human Services, and more. I hope you’ll tune in to watch our conversation.
He’s doing this to try to silence the voices of workers. We must stand together to fight these unprecedented threats to our federal workforce and the right of workers to organize and join a union.
Everyone in this country has due process rights —regardless of immigration status. Seizing and arresting people for exercising their First Amendment rights are actions of an authoritarian government, not a democracy. Trump’s blatant disregard of civil rights should frighten us all.
An international graduate student at Tufts University was taken into federal custody on Tuesday outside an off-campus apartment building, the university’s president said. The university was told that the student’s visa had been terminated. nyti.ms/4hRzPq1
Oregon’s thriving wine industry relies on a network of producers, wholesalers, retailers, and restaurants that Trump’s tariffs on European wine would threaten. Workers and businesses in Oregon can’t afford the uncertainty and chaos created by Trump’s trade wars.
Well written missive from my local wine merchant explaining how tariffs will damage the same, integrated distribution network that serves the domestic industry, and ultimately shrink the total market. Ricardo is very much alive. #econsky cc @scottlincicome.bsky.social
This is someone who peddles the false idea that vaccines cause autism and has no experience managing educational programs. Make no mistake: this is part of their plan to privatize schools and end public education as we know it. We won’t let them.
IDEA, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, helps students with disabilities receive a quality public education. Moving this critical program to RFK Jr. would be a disaster for students and families.
ED is the only agency with the expertise and infrastructure to uphold IDEA’s promise. Moving IDEA to HHS sends a harmful message that children with disabilities are “patients” to be managed rather than students with the potential to be fulfilled. www.chalkbeat.org/2025/03/22/t...
We served together on the Education Committee for several years, and I also appreciated his work as Chair of the Committee on Natural Resources. My heart goes out to his family and friends and community in Tucson, and hope that they find comfort in memories of happy times together.
Today I joined a large gathering of family, friends, and colleagues to say goodbye to my late friend, Rep. Raúl Grijalva. Raúl had a sharp mind, artistic talent, progressive values, and a great sense of humor.
A photo of the service program for late Congressman Raúl Grijalva. Graphic of a woman in a robe with stars in the sky spreading her arms over a desert landscape with farmworkers and protestors. Text reads: "We cannot shun our values as an immigrant nation. This is a wrong path. And while possibly it is a short-term political victory based on division and based on creating a wedge issue that splits people in this country, it is a long-term defeat for this nation. -Raúl M. Grijalva."

Instead of taking responsibility for their reckless behavior, the Trump administration is lying to the American people. Everyone involved in this breach of national security must be held accountable, and that should start with Hegseth’s resignation.
We won’t sit by while this corrupt President tries to dismantle a constitutional function of the federal government and the most dependable service that delivers lifesaving medication, checks, and ballots to people across the country.
Over the years I’ve heard a lot of concern about US Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, and I’m not sorry to see him go. But it’s likely that the next Postmaster General will continue the Trump administration’s dangerous mission to privatize the USPS.
