In hollowing out entire agencies, Donald Trump and Russ Vought are attacking the devoted Americans who serve their country.
But I want to say to our public servants: Do not lose hope. What is happening is wrong, and the American people stand with you.

The public servants who have dedicated their careers to serving the American people love our country. And our country loves them back.
We'll keep fighting against the unnecessary pain Trump and Vought are inflicting on families. This is not the end.

Trump and his cronies have been attacking our dedicated public servants from Day 1 — and now they're weaponizing Trump's shutdown to illegally fire more federal workers. We won't stand for it.
Tune in as my colleagues and I discuss how we're fighting back:

U.S. consumers are already shouldering as much as 55% of costs due to Trump’s unprecedented gambit to impose sizable tariffs on imports, according to a new report from Goldman Sachs analysts.
Today, we honor the first stewards of this land. Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrates the resilience, culture, and traditions that continue to enrich our shared history and strengthen the American spirit.
Trump’s RIFs are illegal, cruel, and will hurt our country
I will do all I can to support and protect federal workers and contractors.
To those workers, I say again: you deserve so much better.
I know this is yet another dark moment in a dark year, but please do not lose hope.
The country still sees and values your service, and your work is not in vain.
This Administration’s corruption is only matched by its willingness to sabotage our economy and raise prices for the American people.
Trump and Vought’s contempt for Congress' powers under the Constitution will make it harder to get a deal that can end this shutdown.
A government shutdown does not require mass firings of federal workers, it forbids it.
Trump and Vought have fired federal workers by the thousands since the DOGE disaster.
Directing these firings during a shutdown violates the law, and the laws they are violating are criminal statutes.
Illegally firing these workers will hurt essential services for the American people and damage our economy.
Vought is also further abusing power by corruptly freezing hundreds of energy infrastructure projects, which will kill even more jobs and raise electricity prices across the nation.
The mass firings Russ Vought and the Trump Administration announced today are cruel and illegal, and are already being fought in court.
This is a disaster for Virginia, intentionally inflicted by President Trump and his Republican allies.
When paychecks stop during a shutdown, bills don’t.
My Emergency Relief for Federal Workers Act would allow our civil servants to tap retirement savings without penalty to get through tough times during a government shutdown. We owe them that much.

Republican leaders are now saying they will keep the House in recess for the FOURTH week in a row as the shutdown drags on.
Instead of negotiating a deal to end the shut down, protect Americans' health care, and stop price increases, they're taking a month-long vacation.
This Administration's own guidance and Speaker Johnson's website both state, correctly, that federal workers will receive retroactive pay "as required by law."
The Trump Administration is just trying to frighten people as a tactic to avoid negotiating in good faith. Despicable.
Federal employees are guaranteed back pay at the end of any shutdown by law. This is not in question.
That law - the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act - passed nearly unanimously. Speaker Johnson and Leader Thune voted for it. Trump signed it.
The conventional wisdom is that furloughed federal workers get backpay when the shutdown ends
But a draft White House memo says that’s not the case as the Trump admin considers ratcheting up the pressure on Senate Dems to end the shutdown

Beyer bill would let federal workers tap retirement funds without penalty during shutdown
House Republicans appear to be extending their vacation before and during the government shutdown through a third week.
I’ve never seen anything like it.
Trump and Republican leaders want to give Argentina a $20 billion bailout but won’t spend a penny to stop Americans' health care costs from skyrocketing.
“America first.”

I’ve put together a webpage where you can find resources to help you while portions of the government remain closed. It’s my hope that the resources provided below will address your questions and concerns.

President Trump and Republicans have shut down the government because they refuse to enact a deal that protects Americans from skyrocketing health care cost increases.
I’ll keep working to end this shutdown, but please know that my office remains open and is here to help.
