Trump and Musk’s abysmal abuse of the federal civil service is only getting worse, and the loss of these workers and their expertise will further harm the delivery of key services to the American people – in this case to our students. /4

All just to put a few more dollars into billionaires' pockets—truly disgusting.
Education Department workers, many of whom I represent, learned of their terminations last night in waves that heavily targeted student aid workers and civil rights office staff, and eliminated entire offices. 3/
Gutting the Department of Education would have horrific effects on American students and schools.
Teachers will be fired, students will go hungry, college will be less affordable, and the worst harm will fall on students with disabilities and students of color. 2/
Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s political purge of the Department of Education is a gross betrayal of American students.
It is also illegal: Trump is plainly trying to eliminate by fiat a department established in law by Congress. 1/
This is as corrupt as it gets.
"DOGE" employees may face criminal exposure for violating laws about financial conflicts of interest. @raskin.house.gov @frost.house.gov @joaquincastrotx.bsky.social @repdangoldman.bsky.social @repescobar.bsky.social & I are investigating enforcement of those laws:

Every single one of my Republican Ways and Means colleagues just voted to oppose much-needed transparency into why and how Musk has sought treasury payment information and American’s sensitive data.
If no laws have been broken, there should be nothing to hide.

Republicans are handing over Congress’s power to revoke Trump’s tariffs, giving Trump’s trade war their stamp of approval.
If you think prices are too high or groceries are too expensive, Trump’s tariffs make it worse.
Breaking this down with @repdelbene.bsky.social

The Republican defunding bill's major cuts to medical research funding, food assistance, and more will have devastating impacts for older Americans.
Worse, it will allow for further cuts from even more programs that older Americans depend on. I voted no.

Trump and Musk are illegally shutting down federal agencies, mass firing federal workers, and freezing congressionally mandated funding. It's causing massive job losses and economic chaos for my constituents far worse any shutdown. The Republican CR would perpetuate this status quo.
I will vote no.
Republicans just snuck a provision surrendering power to revoke Trump's tariffs into a procedural vote. All Dems opposed. Every Republican who voted for this will own the economic consequences of expanding Trump's tariff powers. Statement with @repdelbene.bsky.social:

Trump and Rubio's detention and attempted deportation of Mahmoud Khalil are among the worst assaults on free speech and the First Amendment since the McCarthy era. Whatever you think of Khalil's views, his speech is protected. Stripping that protection will have terrible, far reaching consequences.
Johnson calls this "clean." Anyone who thinks fake appropriations that Trump will immediately cancel are "clean" should have their head examined, it's fundamentally dishonest. Allowing Elon and company to keep looting the federal government is as dirty as it gets. Everyone should oppose this. 4/4
Mike Johnson wants Congress to enact legislation to continue this disastrous status quo, appropriating funds with the expectation that Trump and Musk will immediately cancel huge swathes of that funding and continue their illegal destruction of the federal government. 3/
On Saturday, when I organized an event with local governments to offer support to federal workers and contractors with financial and career counseling, mental health resources, and food assistance, over a thousand people came. The need, desperation, and pain in that room were palpable. 2/
