Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, recognizing the history & culture of the indigenous people who have lived here long before our nation’s founding. There are 570+ recognized tribes in our country, including the Piscataway tribe who has lived throughout the Chesapeake Bay tributaries for centuries.
Thank you to the NEA Board of Directors for sitting down with me in Washington to discuss full funding for our public schools, support for special education programs, and crucial programs that provide professional development opportunities for our teachers and students.
The law is clear: the Administration cannot recklessly fire federal workers because of a shutdown. This President has been attacking our federal workforce and the critical services they provide since day one – we will not stand for them using this shutdown as an excuse to fire more civil servants.
For 180 years, the U.S. Naval Academy has educated and trained generations of our best and brightest Midshipmen to serve as Naval and Marine Corps Officers. I’m proud to lead more than 30 of my colleagues in honoring the legacy and impact the Academy has had on our nation.
Our nation’s servicemembers will miss their paychecks next week if Congress doesn’t act. Today, I requested that Congress pass a bill to pay our troops during shutdowns. Unfortunately, I was gaveled down and the bill was not considered.
