📺 Your Sunday stream: I was on @abc13houstontexas.bsky.social 's This Week in Texas with Tom Abrahams to discuss the impact the Trump shutdown is having on our community and our country.
You can watch the full interview here: abc13.com/post/week-te...
Texas recently announced that it may not have federal funds for food assistance. But we know that there is a $5 billion contingency fund for this very purpose. I joined my colleagues in calling on USDA Sec. Brooke Rollins to release these funds and help Americans put food on the table in November.
Whether we're talking about the government shutdown that asks employees who inspect imports to work without pay, or we're looking at tariffs that create instability, President Trump's policies are hurting Houston's economy.

Trump is again trying to make it more difficult for Americans to access the benefits they rely on every day. I'm glad to join @wassermanschultz.house.gov and @repricklarsen.bsky.social in fighting Trump's attempt to keep elderly Americans from accessing their hard-earned Social Security benefits.
Reminder to student coders: submissions for the Congressional App Challenge are due in less than one week! I'm looking forward to seeing this year's submissions.

15 million people could be kicked off health care, thousands of federal workers are working without pay, and working-class folks are at risk of losing critical food assistance.
But the ballroom is the President's top priority.
President Trump and Republicans' cuts to Medicaid and failure to extend the ACA's tax credits will reduce the quality and availability of health care services in #TX07 and across the country. I was glad to tour HCA Houston West to learn more about what these changes will mean here in Houston.
Throughout the shutdown, the Trump administration has illegally and indiscriminately fired federal employees—including workers at the Department of Education dedicated to serving students with disabilities and their families. I joined my colleagues to oppose these terminations.
President Trump and Republicans are reducing Texans' access to health care both directly (by slashing Medicaid and letting Affordable Care Act tax credits expire) and indirectly (by cutting the program dedicated to helping Americans sign up for insurance). Read more here ⬇️
This October, we recognize the contributions—from serving in the armed forces to fighting for labor rights—that Filipino Americans have made that have shaped our country's history and culture. Happy Filipino American History Month!

No state is safe from skyrocketing health care premiums.
A 60-year-old couple will pay an average of $1,530 more every month next year—and in some states, that number is even higher.
Another day, another article about how this shutdown is impacting the services that people in #TX07 rely on. Republicans can end families' worries about losing access to food assistance today by working with Democrats to open the government and solve the health care crisis.
Soon, Americans will receive health insurance renewal notices with staggering cost increases as a result of the GOP's bad policies, including the failure to renew the ACA's enhanced premium tax credits. Republicans must work with us to prevent these unacceptable increases and reopen the government.
Attention #TX07 seniors: the 2025 Medicare Open Enrollment period has begun! Review your coverage and make any changes to your plans before the period closes on Dec. 7.

🚀 Happy opening day, Houston Rockets! This season's going to be #AllFire.
You may have heard this claim. It's not true. The Republicans' disinformation about who will receive that help isn't getting us anywhere. #TrumpShutUSDown

Small businesses are hurting because of the Republican shutdown. It's time Republicans come back to DC and end the economic instability.
Title X was born in #TX07 and for years has provided essential family planning and preventative care to millions. But the Trump administration, after having already frozen funding to the vital program, fired the public servants who administer it.

Republicans’ inaction will cause American families’ monthly health care costs to double—or even triple.
Take it from Jackie, a small business owner from Pennsylvania, whose family relies on the Affordable Care Act.
