Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Patricia Pelosi is an American politician who was the 52nd speaker of the United States House of Representatives, serving from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the first woman elected U.S. House speaker and the first woman to lead a major political party in either chamber of Congress, heading the House Democrats from 2003 to 2023. Her 20 years as a House party leader are tied with Joe Martin's as the second-longest after Sam Rayburn. Pelosi is in her 20th term, having served in the House since 1987, representing California's 11th congressional district, which includes most of San Francisco. She is the dean of California's congressional delegation.

Democrats are committed to defending the progress of the IRA, from prescription drug relief to clean energy investments. We’ll fight to preserve the promise of lower costs, good jobs and a cleaner planet—for today's working families and for generations to come.
Now, Republicans are attacking that progress—freezing funding, revoking grants, suspending subsidies and rolling back clean energy tax credits. As they pollute our water and poison our air to benefit their donors, they sacrifice not only jobs, but the health and future of our children.
Three years ago, Democrats delivered the Inflation Reduction Act—a historic law that lowered prescription drug costs, reduced energy bills, created millions of good-paying jobs and invested in America’s clean energy future. Its passage was a momentous victory #ForThePeople.
We prayed for peace but instead got praise for Putin. For the unjustified curtesies extended to him by Trump in Alaska yesterday, the thug should immediately return the tens of thousands of children he kidnapped from Ukraine and stop the raping of women as a weapon of war.
Social Security is not a “scam.” For 90 years, it has been a pillar of dignity and security for millions of Americans. If Donald Trump and Republicans think they can close offices, slash services and fire staff without consequence—they will be hearing from their constituents.
Today, I joined seniors, advocates and community leaders in San Francisco to celebrate 90 years of Social Security. While Trump closes offices, fires staff and slashes services, Democrats are fighting to ensure Americans can retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work.
Republicans are trying to rig the ‘26 elections in their favor by stealing enough seats to control Congress regardless of how the people vote. With California’s Election Rigging Response Act, @governor.ca.gov and CA Dems are fighting back to defend Democracy against Trump’s power grab.
LIVE NOW: Governor Newsom, state leaders make major announcement countering Donald Trump’s gerrymandering scheme. www.youtube.com/live/io2Hutl...
Democrats will never waver in defending the sacred promise of Social Security—that after a lifetime of hard work, Americans can retire without fear of poverty. We will fight to ensure this sacred trust endures for today’s families, tomorrow’s retirees, and generations to come.
Now, Donald Trump and Republicans are gutting Social Security as we know it—closing offices, firing staff and slashing services. Their cruel agenda threatens seniors, forcing more to wait longer, travel farther or risk missing the benefits they rely on.
For 90 years, Social Security has stood as a pillar of opportunity and peace of mind for millions of Americans. The sacred promise of Social Security, born from the courage of President Roosevelt, has safeguarded the dignity, security and financial independence of generations.
Trump’s reckless tariffs are resulting in climbing costs and worsening inflation—forcing working families to pay more for less. While Trump sabotages our economy, House Democrats are fighting to lower costs and make America more affordable.
The millions of Americans who will lose health care under the Big, Ugly Law are not “waste, fraud, and abuse.” Republicans are stealing from the most vulnerable while lavishing their billionaire donors with massive tax breaks. It’s Robin Hood in reverse—and it’s despicable.
New analysis from CBO of the "Big Beautiful Bill" shows the bottom 20% get poorer, not much change for most of America, & the top 10% get meaningfully richer - and that's before tariffs The "Big Beautiful Bill" was the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in history
bottom 20% poorer, top 10% 2.7% richer, everyone else 0.1 to 1.5% better off.
Donald Trump delayed deploying the National Guard on January 6th when our Capitol was under violent attack and lives were at stake. Now, he’s activating the DC Guard to distract from his incompetent mishandling of tariffs, health care, education and immigration — just to name a few blunders.
The PACT Act honors our sacred promise: just as we leave no soldier behind on the battlefield, we leave no Veteran behind when they return. Democrats will always deliver on that promise—protecting and strengthening the PACT Act for our heroes, survivors and their families.
Three years ago today, our Democratic Majority delivered the PACT Act—the largest expansion of VA health and benefits in decades. This landmark law ensures all Veterans exposed to burn pits and toxins get the care and benefits they earned and deserve.
Today, I visited the San Francisco VA Medical Center to mark House Democrats’ Honor Our Veterans Day of Action and reaffirm a simple truth: we must meet the needs of our Veterans. We honor them not just with words—but by fighting to ensure their access to quality, timely care and services.
Today, Republicans are continuing to try to silence communities of color by passing racist gerrymandering.   Democrats won't let it go unanswered. And we'll keep fighting to enact the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act—to defend our democracy & restore the heart of the VRA.
The VRA stands as a pillar of justice that secures and protects the right to vote for all.   But in recent years, it has been weakened by the Republican majority on the Supreme Court as part of the GOP's national efforts to drag us backward through modern voter suppression.
