Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Patricia Pelosi is an American politician who was the 52nd speaker of the United States House of Representatives, serving from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the first woman elected U.S. House speaker and the first woman to lead a major political party in either chamber of Congress, heading the House Democrats from 2003 to 2023. Her 20 years as a House party leader are tied with Joe Martin's as the second-longest after Sam Rayburn. Pelosi is in her 20th term, having served in the House since 1987, representing California's 11th congressional district, which includes most of San Francisco. She is the dean of California's congressional delegation.

Last week, I had the honor of delivering the commencement address at Notre Dame de Namur University—celebrating graduates stepping into a world that needs their courage. My message to them was simple: be yourself, be ready, know your why, and know your power.
Ted Turner was a pioneer in communication, a champion in saving our planet and an all-around hero. Our country was blessed by his entrepreneurship, his determination and his belief that media could inform and unite.
Ted Turner, the billionaire media entrepreneur and philanthropist who launched the 24-hour cable TV news revolution when he founded CNN in 1980, has died. He was 87. https://cnn.it/4tWQsrr
A free press is the guardian of democracy. On #WorldPressFreedomDay, we honor those who risk everything to report the truth and hold power accountable. We must defend their freedom, protect their safety and stand firmly against attacks on them—both at home and around the world.
During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we celebrate all that the vibrant and diverse AAPI communities in San Francisco and across the nation have contributed to shape our history. Their stories are a vital part of America’s story.
House Republicans kept DHS shut down for over 70 days, cutting off funds for FEMA, TSA, the Coast Guard & more. They caved today after accomplishing nothing. They're playing games with your safety while making life harder and more expensive. Enough is enough. You Deserve Better.
Congress must urgently pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore the full strength of the Voting Rights Act before this latest blow becomes fatal.
Today, the Supreme Court has dealt a devastating new blow to the Voting Rights Act and against the sacred right to vote. The consequences will be felt across the country: fewer voices heard, fewer communities represented and a democracy diminished.
Republicans are handing ICE $210 billion while ripping away health care and taking food out of the mouths of children. That money could provide breathing room for working families just trying to make ends meet. Instead, Republicans are doubling down on chaos and cruelty.
And it was my honor to lead a Congressional delegation to visit the Tsitsernakaberd Genocide Memorial and pay respects to the men, women and children who were murdered.   By affirming the history of this tragedy, we work to make sure such horror can never again happen.
On Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, we remember the 1.5 million Armenians killed 111 years ago in a horrific genocide.   I was proud to be Speaker when Congress formally recognized the Armenian Genocide.
California has always been about expanding opportunity, strengthening democracy and ensuring that every person has a fair chance to succeed.   Honored to join leaders from Los Angeles County last night to recognize that shared mission for our Golden State communities.
Met with @ucsanfrancisco.bsky.social Chancellor Sam Hawgood to discuss the vital role of federal research funding in driving lifesaving breakthroughs.   This work represents the biblical power to cure—and we must protect NIH funding from reckless Republican cuts that threaten lives.
On #EarthDay, we continue our mission to be good stewards of God’s creation.   While Trump rolls back environmental protections and ignores science, we must push back. We owe our children a future with clean air and water—and Republican attacks put that future at risk.
It was great to meet with the Bay Area Council during their visit to Washington to discuss what it takes to keep our region moving forward. From housing to transit, the challenges facing the Bay Area demand a strong federal partnership.
It was an honor to address the next generation of innovators at the Congressional App Challenge’s #HouseofCode celebration.   These students are showing the nation what is possible when talent meets purpose. By supporting their ideas, we invest in the future of America.
Met with Dr. Bjorn Kunoy of the Faroe Islands today to discuss strengthening our transatlantic partnership. As the President continues to threaten the Danish Realm, we must stand for sovereignty, the rule of law and respect for our allies.
Met with the @protectparks.bsky.social this week to discuss maintaining our national parks, preserving their history and investing the resources needed to sustain these treasured spaces. Our parks are a vital part of America’s story—and we must ensure they're protected for generations to come.
Represent San Francisco in the halls of Congress through the Congressional Art Competition! High school artists in California's 11th Congressional District should submit their artwork before tomorrow's deadline. pelosi.house.gov/youth-kids/c...
