November is Native American Heritage Month!
This month, we celebrate the many contributions of Native Americans and American Indians – including the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi nations, who lived in what we now know as Chicago.
But this is the world we’re living in. That’s why I’m demanding the DHS office of the Inspector General launch an investigation into ICE’s misconduct in Chicago.
Did I imagine that Trump would be back? That innocent people, including citizens, would be tear-gassed, kidnapped, and deported to foreign countries? Absolutely no way.

BREAKING: Trump says no SNAP benefits until shutdown ends
Across Chicago, churches are showing what it means to "love thy neighbor."
I'm thankful to all of those who are standing with the immigrant community and continuing the tradition of making Chicago a welcoming city. @royalpratt.bsky.social

What we witnessed were parents, children, seniors, and people with special needs lining up before 7, just to feed their families. Without #SNAP, people are going to starve.
On Saturday, SNAP recipients missed their EBT funds for this month. We joined volunteers at the Saint Sabina food distribution site to pitch in.
Next year, a 45-year-old in Illinois making $64,000 a year will see their MONTHLY healthcare premiums increase by $2,777! We must extend the Affordable Care Act credits to keep healthcare costs down and stave off the Republican Healthcare Crisis.
The #RepublicanShutdown is happening because my colleagues across the aisle refuse to negotiate with Democrats.
More below.
Linda McMahon & #Project2025 architect Russell Vought decimated the federal special education department – firing the staffers who support 7.5 million students nationwide.
I’m proud to join @mcbath.house.gov and over 115 @housedemocrats.bsky.social in fighting for students with disabilities.

I'm working with my Democratic colleagues to prevent a Republican Health Care Crisis. Illinois households this year are paying an average of $260 a month for coverage through the Affordable Care Act. Next year, if the ACA tax credits expire, that average monthly rate will jump to $464.
Wishing all Chicagoans a very happy Halloween!🎃
Times are tough right now, but I'm hoping we can all enjoy the holiday safely with our loved ones. The only way through this is together.
Because the Trump administration has refused to deploy their emergency #SNAP funds, many people are going to miss their benefits tomorrow. We're here to help.

Secretary Noem might want to ask any of the 170+ U.S. citizens who ICE has detained.
I'm hosting a press conference RIGHT NOW to demand an investigation into #ICE misconduct in Chicago. We'll also hear from local elected officials and a few of my constituents who have been attacked by federal agents in recent weeks.
Tune in here!
Trump has the authority and the emergency funds to keep SNAP going this month, but he's cruelly chosen to let Americans go hungry.
Meanwhile, Illinois continues to step up where this president has failed.
