Congress must use its oversight power to hold this administration accountable and ensure the humane treatment of immigrant detainees.
This administration has failed to maintain its facilities or treat detainees humanely.
We are an immigrant rich nation and we must do better.
Leaving the Broward Transitional Center, I saw how little ICE cares about immigrant detainees.
The recent death in the Broward facility is just a tragic example of what happens when we let this government go unchecked.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
The death of a detainee under ICE's watch at the Broward Transitional Center is unacceptable.
I'll be visiting the facility TODAY with Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick to find out what happened and inspect the facility's conditions.
Stay tuned for more.
Happy Haitian Heritage Month! 🇭🇹
This month, we honor the strength, culture, and resilience of the Haitian people.
I am proud to represent one of the largest Haitian populations in the United States and thanks to them, our community is more vibrant and stronger.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
If you or anyone you know experienced sexual abuse, know that help is available 24/7.
No one should have to face the aftermath of sexual assault alone.
Every Wednesday is #WearBlueWednesday because enough is enough.
It's time we #BringBackTheHostages.
#BringThemHomeNow🎗️
Congress needs to ensure proper oversight over this administration’s immigration policies and all members of Congress must visit ICE facilities across the country because clearly ICE does not give a damn about our immigrant communities.
I’m heartbroken and furious about Marie Ange Blaise, a Haitian immigrant who died in ICE custody at the Broward Transitional Center.
How many more stories do we have to hear of immigrants being mistreated at these black hole detention centers? When are we going to get answers?
Happy Birthday Carrie Meek!
I miss you and thank you for inspiring me and so many others in your fight for justice.
Members of Congress must conduct oversight by visiting ICE facilities across the country.
We are an immigrant-rich nation, and our hardworking immigrant neighbors—who contribute so much to this country—deserve dignity and opportunity, not inhumane treatment.
I am proud of my Bahamian background and it’s almost that time of year to kick off the Coconut Grove Bahamian Goombay Festival of 2025.
So mark your calendars for June 6 through June 8, and make sure to come to Grand Avenue to celebrate Bahamian culture! 🇧🇸
We must decide what kind of nation we want to be. America is a nation of immigrants, and every person deserves dignity.
Our government must end its reign of terror against immigrant communities. PERIOD.
🧵Today was a sad day for me.
I toured the ICE Krome Detention Center today—43 years after my first visit—and it’s still plagued by same terrible conditions.
ICE is targeting countless hardworking immigrants, our neighbors, who deserve better.
Happy Earth Day!🌎
This Earth Day, I'm recommitted to defending the environment we all rely on, especially here in South Florida.
For the sake of our health, our children, and future generations, we must fight to stop climate change and protect our natural resources.
My heart goes out to the Catholic community and all who were inspired by Pope Francis as we mourn his passing.
He was a humble champion for the poor, an advocate for the marginalized, and brought tremendous hope and compassion to millions worldwide.
May he rest in peace.
Happy Easter! Wishing you a beautiful day full of love, hope, and new beginnings.
On this Good Friday, we take a moment to reflect on the significance of sacrifice and love.
It's a day to renew our faith and embrace the hope that comes with new beginnings. Wishing everyone who celebrates a meaningful day filled with peace and reflection.
My heart goes out to everyone affected by the shooting at FSU. I’m praying for everyone’s safety as we continue to monitor the active threat.
Our places of learning should never be the target of violence—this should not be the reality on our campuses. abcnews.go.com/US/active-sh...
