Spoke to CBS Austin about Trump/Musk's FAA layoffs making our community less safe.
The abrupt firing of highly talented public servants across the government, many of whom are veterans, will degrade service.

Delighted to meet with Centex credit unions, recognizing their important role in offering our neighbors both safety and opportunity. #creditunions #GAC2025
Trump’s Department of Injustice has decided his disgraceful pardons of Jan. 6 rioters cover their additional egregious crimes.
His phony claims to Congress that he believes criminals should be behind bars conflict with his efforts to put Jan. 6 criminals back onto the streets with illegal firearms.
Of the many Trump lies in his address, among the most troubling were those on Social Security, which automatically declines payments to anyone over the age of 115 and polices others.
@usprogressives.bsky.social and I will always fight fraud and protect Americans from Trump and Musk's attacks.
Rebecca informed me that due to Trump/Musk's assault on our national park system, they are unable to hire new law enforcement and park rangers to ensure the safety of the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas. (2/2)
San Antonio, which I represented for about a decade, has so much that makes it special, including the Missions National Park I helped expand years ago.
Pleased to chat with Rebecca Viagran, President & CEO of the South Texas Business Partnership, during the annual “SA to DC” trip. (1/2)
Trump/Musk and complicit GOP are determined to weaken Social Security by firing ~7k workers and closing regional offices.
I joined Ways & Means colleagues to introduce bills to keep field offices open, protect sensitive info & demand Trump informs Congress about DOGE activity threatening benefits.
Trump and Musk are punishing veterans to pay for billionaire tax breaks.
Austin veteran Daniel Santiago bravely served our country for 13 years before working at the IRS.
Due to Trump's mass firings, he and his wife are now at risk of losing their home.
Trump and Musk's false claims about Social Security plants doubt in Americans' minds as GOP seeks slashing this earned benefit to give billionaires trillions in tax breaks.
@pocan.house.gov, Rep. Maxwell Frost and I are fighting to protect the promise for you to retire with dignity and security.
When the metaphor fits...
This looks like what unelected, GOP-empowered President Elon would do to our democracy.
I joined colleagues to highlight the many lies and imaginary numbers in Trump’s address.
For example, Social Security makes payments to 72 million Americans each year, and less than 1% of those payments have ever been found to be improper (some were too small!).
Watch my full speech:
Our compassion and humanity should always extend to animals.
I'm pleased to receive another perfect 100+ score from the Humane World Action Fund for my legislative efforts to end animal cruelty and abuse.
We've still got work to do, but I remain committed to protecting animal welfare.
With DOGE slashing the federal workforce, Trump has FIRED more military vets than any President in history, with more unjustified terminations ahead. The GOP either supports firings or is cowed into silence.
Trump adviser Alina Habba says ousted vets may not be "fit to have a job at this moment."

With tax season in full swing, the IRS should be focused on helping Americans—not firing dedicated workers.
Proud to join @doggett.house.gov , @ross.house.gov, and 130+ of my colleagues in condemning these harmful cuts and demanding transparency on how the agency plans to mitigate the fallout.
Science matters, whether fighting the climate crisis, measles outbreak, or cyber crimes. Ignorance and conspiracy theories will cost lives and impair our economic competitiveness. (2/2)
This Friday, March 7, at 5 pm on the Texas State Capitol south steps, I am speaking at a public event to Stand Up for Science as part of a national day of action. Essential to engage more and more neighbors in rejecting the science deniers. (1/2)
Congrats to Dr. Michelle Smith, a trusted early childhood leader, on her appointment as interim CEO of Every Texan.
For decades, Every Texan has been an invaluable source for objective information about the indifference of the State of Texas and the Trump admin to the needs of so many Texans.
It is a shocking blow to the House of Representatives and Texans to lose so suddenly the strong voice of Congressman Sylvester Turner—with us last night, gone today.
Libby and I offer our prayers and condolences to his family, staff, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
In the middle of tax season, Trump/Musk want to make it harder for you to get an IRS refund & easier for rich tax cheats to avoid paying their fair share.
The richest 1% already avoid paying about $160 billion in tax each year & DOGE is doubling down on this fraud and abuse. I'm demanding answers.
Trump doesn’t like fact-checking since so many of his claims don’t match the facts.
The People’s House must not be left unchecked to a wannabe tyrant spewing lies. (2/2)
