Our kids can’t learn if they’re hungry. I introduced a bill to support Food is Medicine legislation because healthy food is a right, not a luxury. We can improve health outcomes and lower costs for families by simply investing in better nutrition.
WE ARE NOT GOING BACK✊🏾. I was in Montgomery this weekend with @cbc.house.gov and my @housedemocrats.bsky.social colleagues to say NO to Jim Crow Maps. Black voices will be heard loud and clear—in Congress, in statehouses, and across the country.
Since 1965, Head Start has helped millions of children reach their full potential. In our community, these programs give every child a foundation for life. I’ll always support investments that help our families thrive.
For nearly a decade, @mmhalliance.bsky.social has advocated for maternal mental health programs and secured over $120 million toward their mission.   Thank you for your work and your partnership to provide mental healthcare for moms.
Linda Brown’s courage changed history, but the fight for equity continues. We cannot honor the legacy of Brown v. Board while the Trump administration tries to dismantle the Dept. of Education. We must move past rhetoric and finally fund every public school.
Every person deserves to live authentically and safely. I’m working with the @equality.house.gov to protect the rights of our global LGBTQI+ neighbors against a wave of hateful legislation. We honor this day by committing to a future where everyone is safe.
I’m in Montgomery to make GOOD TROUBLE ✊🏾 Right now, our voting rights are being threatened. It’s up to all of us to protect our democracy and ensure Black voices are heard all across the country.
This week my @oversightdemocrats.bsky.social colleagues hosted the first oversight hearings in Palm Beach County regarding the Epstein Files. It is past time for the files to be fully released & for every single named perpetrator out there to be held accountable.
Whether it's a student doing homework in Pembroke or a senior in Chicago using telehealth, everyone deserves a fair shot in the digital age. I proudly introduced legislation with @durbin.senate.gov to increase access to broadband services for urban and rural Americans.
This week the SouthCom Coalition visited me in my DC office.    It was great hearing from the mayors of Park Forest, Richton Park, and Matteson to hear about our shared priorities, including economic development, water infrastructure, and public safety.
So far, Trump’s war with Iran has cost American taxpayers $29 BILLION. It's completely unacceptable when millions of Americans have lost access to SNAP and healthcare. Americans didn’t vote for this, and I am going to continue fighting against his reckless leadership.
I spoke on the House floor in honor of the lives lost and survivors of the hateful shooting in Buffalo—but I also urged Congress to do something. We need gun safety laws and to hold the gun lobby accountable NOW. We all deserve to live free from gun violence.
I will not stay silent while the Supreme Court guts the Voting Rights Act and opens the door to racial discrimination in our elections. For decades, Black activists fought with blood, sweat, and tears for our right to vote. Now, it’s up to us to protect it.
The 60-day clock has run out. This war is illegal, and the Trump administration has failed to prove an imminent threat exists. We are spending $29 billion abroad while Republicans refuse to spend a dime on healthcare at home. It is time for Congress to reassert its authority.
Four years ago, a white supremacist targeted Black Americans, took ten lives, and injured three more in Buffalo. Their families and that community deserve more than thoughts and prayers. They deserve action to end gun violence and protect every neighborhood.
The Trump administration has been relentless in its attacks against women’s healthcare. From NIH trial diversity to reproductive healthcare, I will continue to fight for a future where everyone has access to safe, affordable healthcare.
For nearly a century, handguns have been barred from being mailed through USPS. The Trump administration is now considering changing that. It would open a dangerous new path for gun trafficking and put communities across the country at risk.
Inflation is rising faster than wages for the first time in years. While you’re squeezed at the gas pump & grocery store, Republicans are trying to steal $1 billion from taxpayers to build Trump’s ballroom. It is a disgusting betrayal of millions of hardworking Americans.
Mother’s Day is hard for moms who lost children to gun violence. Over the weekend, I joined Roseland Ceasefire and State Rep. Bob Rita to honor their strength. I ran for Congress to end this epidemic. I won’t stop fighting until every child is safe.
