I’m incredibly grateful to my friend @mcbath.house.gov for hosting a powerful hearing to support community violence intervention organizations. Even under this Trump administration, we’ll make sure survivors’ voices are heard loud and clear: it’s beyond time to end gun violence.
Republicans claim there’s no money for healthcare. But then they give $70 billion in tax dollars to ICE to continue their reign of terror on our communities. Your tax dollars should be used to make your life better. Not bankroll Trump’s cruelty & corruption.
To the millions of individuals, families, and caregivers navigating the reality of Alzheimer’s: you are not alone. This month, and every month, I am standing with our community to ensure you have the care, resources, and support you need.
The numbers are clear: under Trump and the GOP, basic living expenses for IL families are up $2,500. Their response? A vanity ballroom and billions for an unchecked ICE. This is Trump's latest theft of taxpayer dollars.
A decade ago, a gunman targeted LGBTQ+ and Latino communities at Pulse Nightclub. No one should be shot or killed for celebrating something as beautiful as Pride. As a Member of the @equality.house.gov, I refuse to let hate dictate the future of the communities I am proud to stand with.
Black men face disproportionately higher rates of chronic illness and shorter life expectancies due to systemic gaps in our healthcare system. Men’s Health Month isn't just a reminder to see a doctor—it's a call to dismantle the barriers keeping men from quality care.
Americans do not want a reckless and out-of-control ICE agency. But Republicans gifted $70 billion to ICE and Gestapo so they can continue to illegally detain people, terrorize Americans and immigrants alike, and kill people in cold blood. Their budget priorities are severely out of order.
Today, I led the @housedemocrats.bsky.social in wearing orange to honor Hadiya Pendleton and every life stolen by gun violence. Orange was Hadiya's favorite color, and now, it's a bright beacon for gun violence awareness. We owe survivors more than thoughts & prayers. We owe them action.
I brought the issue of maternal health to Congress because of Charles Johnson’s wife who died in childbirth. Nearly 10 years later, I introduced the WELLS Act because of my constituent Mercedes Wells. They’ve now come together to advocate on the Hill for Black maternal health 💜.
We can’t build safer communities while gun laws remain full of loopholes. Congress needs to close the Charleston Loophole, which allows gun purchases in three days even without a background check. It’s common sense: background checks should always be required to buy a gun.
60 years after the Equal Pay Act, women are still paid less for the same work. The gap is even wider for Black women. I don’t accept it. I support the Paycheck Fairness Act and efforts to strengthen equal pay protections. I’ll keep fighting for equal pay for equal work.
America was built by immigrants. This Immigrant Heritage Month, I celebrate the generations of people who came here seeking new opportunities. Their cultures, talents, and hard work continue to enrich our country despite ongoing attacks from the Trump administration.
ICE already spends more than other nations' entire defense budgets to terrorize our Black and Brown communities. Now, the GOP wants to hand these Gestapo agents another $70 BILLION. Not on my watch. I voted NO.
While millions of Americans scrape by, Donald Trump and his allies are trading stocks and cashing in on billionaire-first policies. This grift is at the expense of working families who are left paying the price.
