With my boys in town for spring break, I visited the Tidal Basin to talk about the family-friendly action we took on the House floor last night: defeating Republicans' attempt to block new parents from voting by proxy.
Republicans say they're pro-family, but would rather cancel all House business than let new parents vote. In February, @pettersen.house.gov flew across the country w/ her newborn son to vote no on Republicans' disastrous budget. Democrats know America is stronger when new parents can participate.
Today, Speaker Johnson tried to block our bipartisan resolution to allow new moms and dads to vote remotely while caring for their newborns—but we refused to let him silence our voices.
While the U.S. faces widespread measles & bird flu outbreaks, Trump is slashing crucial government services that make us safer and healthier. Hear my thoughts on @kqednews.kqed.org:
As a @equality.house.gov member, I’m committed to fighting for a future where all can live openly and authentically. That's why I led a letter demanding the State Department reverse their unjust & unlawful passport policy impacting trans, non-binary, and intersex Americans. #TransDayOfVisibility
Today marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Wong Kim Ark, affirming birthright citizenship. As Trump attempts to unlawfully revoke this right, we must stand firm in defending the 14th Amendment. @capac.house.gov capac.house.gov/press-releas...
Amidst skyrocketing electricity costs, Republicans want to repeal commonsense energy efficiency standards that would save Americans billions of dollars each year. My @energycommerce.bsky.social colleagues & I will continue to advocate for standards that lower utility costs &help the environment.
Last week, Trump attempted to illegally fire both Democratic Commissioners on the FTC, an independent agency that protects consumers from deceptive & fraudulent practices. If the FTC no longer has the resources it needs to do its job, then what are we even doing here?
This is what happens when Trump picks woefully unqualified people to lead our nation's most sensitive and critical operations. Hegseth should resign immediately, and apologize to the servicemembers he put at risk with his incompetence. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/24/u...
Mandating clear 'Do Not Flush' labeling will save California utilities and consumers tens of millions of dollars each year. I'm proud to re-introduce the bipartisan Wastewater Infrastructure Pollution Prevention and Environmental Safety (WIPPES) Act w/ Rep. McClain, Sen. Merkley & Sen. Collins.
Last year, for the first time in over two decades, the gender wage gap widened: Women make 75 cents for every dollar men make. On Equal Pay Day, I join my Democratic Women's Caucus colleagues in fighting for fair wages for all women. #EqualPay
It's been 60yrs since the Selma March, a courageous act that emphasized the right to protest is integral to furthering rights for all. The Trump Admin's unlawful detainment of student Mahmoud Khalil threatens our First Amendment. We must protect foundational rights to peaceful protest & free speech.
