The government shuts down tonight—but House Republicans are on vacation. Democrats are in Washington, ready to keep government open and lower health care costs. If Republicans force a shutdown, it’s on them. Democrats will keep fighting to protect your health care.
With government funding set to expire tomorrow, Democrats are ready to reach a bipartisan deal that keeps government open and lowers health care costs.
Republicans would rather push their partisan bill that causes health care premiums, copays and drug prices to soar.

“The electrification of Caltrain has meant cleaner air, faster commutes and good-paying jobs in the Bay Area and beyond,” Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi said. 🧵
48 years ago, President Carter signed the Food Stamp Act, laying the foundation for SNAP—our nation’s most successful anti-hunger initiative. Shamefully, Republicans slashed SNAP in their Big, Ugly Bill—prioritizing tax cuts for the rich over feeding America's hungry children.
Donald Trump thinks Americans needing affordable health care is unserious and ridiculous. He’s wrong. The President’s comments only show that he is dangerously unserious and sadly ridiculous.
Four years ago, our Democratic House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act to restore Roe and protect reproductive freedom. While the cowardice of Senate Republicans prevented it from becoming law, Democrats will never stop until reproductive rights are restored nationwide.
As Jewish families across America and around the world gather for Rosh Hashanah, I join in wishing them a year filled with health, hope and renewal. May this season of reflection bring peace and joy to all. Shana tovah u’metukah!
For 35 years, the National AIDS Memorial has stood as a sacred space of healing and remembrance. It was an honor to join volunteers, founders and partners there this weekend to pay tribute to those we have lost and renew our commitment to banish HIV to the dustbin of history.
They were wrong when they told us “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was essential to protecting our military. Fourteen years after repealing that discriminatory policy and tossing it into the dustbin of history, we must summon that same courage to confront today’s attacks on equality.
Yesterday, I had the honor of joining the USO to assemble care packages for our brave men and women in uniform. These small gestures of thanks reflect America’s unshakable commitment to honor those who sacrifice so much in defense of our nation.

Today, I joined @padilla.senate.gov, @schiff.senate.gov, and my House colleagues to re-introduce my Redistricting Reform Act. It’s time to put an end to Trump’s gerrymandering war and establish independent redistricting nationwide.
On Constitution Day, I joined @schiff.senate.gov, @repdangoldman.bsky.social and @repsummerlee.bsky.social to reintroduce the Protecting Our Democracy Act. This legislation restores checks and balances to make it clear that no president—including Donald Trump—is above the law and the Constitution.
It was deeply moving to meet with Gold Star families and advocates today. Their voices and resilience are powerful reminders of the heroes we have lost—and of our responsibility to ensure surviving families receive the security and benefits they earned and deserve.
Today, our nation mourns the loss of Robert Redford: a fearless artist, environmental champion and founder of Sundance—who opened doors for independent storytellers everywhere. Paul and I extend our deepest sympathies to Sibylle and the entire Redford family. May he rest in peace.
With their Big, Ugly Bill, Republicans proudly slashed Medicaid which shuts down hospitals and makes premiums unaffordable for Americans across the country. America’s working families are being squeezed by rising costs—but the GOP abandoned them to give tax cuts to the rich.
Honored to join so many leaders last week at the Fire Museum of Maryland to tour the restored fireboat named for my father, Mayor Thomas D’Alesandro Jr. Grateful to all for preserving this piece of Baltimore’s history and celebrating the heroic legacy of our firefighters.
Guided by @hispaniccaucus.bsky.social, Democrats remain steadfast in working to advance the American Dream for all. We will continue to fight back against these policies and work to build a future where every family can live with dignity, respect and security.
But as we celebrate Latino heritage, Trump and Republicans are pushing a cruel immigration crackdown—empowering ICE agents to detain people based on ethnicity alone. These racist attacks are tearing families apart and betraying America’s promise of justice and equality.
During #HispanicHeritageMonth, we honor the contributions of America’s Latino communities—enriching our culture and strengthening our democracy. From science, education and the arts to public service and business, Latinos have shaped every part of American life.
