I am horrified and heartbroken by the political violence that took the lives of Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, and left State Senator John Hoffman and his wife fighting for their lives.
The Trump administration is now normalizing assaulting members of Congress. Noem refuses to allow congressional oversight because she has no regard for the Constitution. I'll say it again, she needs to resign.
Wow. California Sen. Alex Padilla is wrestled and detained by federal officers after showing up to DHS Sec. Kristi Noem's press conference in LA. (video from Bill Melugin of Fox News)
It's always a pleasure to join Bloomingdale Township Democrats for their annual Rose Fitzpatrick Legislation Breakfast, celebrating community leaders and Democratic candidates working to build power together. Shout out to Terrell Barnes, BTDO Chair, on another great event!
People have rightfully refused to stay silent as they have witnessed their neighbors being kidnapped. Communitiy members have a right to exercise their constitutionally protected right to protest their government. But Donald Trump stopped caring about the constitution a long time ago.
This is governance by oligarchs working exactly as designed. A couple of billionaires having a pissing contest to distract us from the way they wrecked our economy, kidnapped our neighbors, and rigged our budget to steal from working people.
That any of us have to care about the messy breakup of these two massive narcissists — and that they both individually wield such massive power — is an indictment of our political system and further proves the poisonous influence of Big Money on our democracy.
Today in Chicago, people attempting to do things the right and legal way, by showing up to immigration check-ins, were lured to ISAP and entrapped by ICE so that the fascists in the White House can meet their daily deportation quotas.
There is no better way to celebrate another year of life than with the community that supports me and keeps me rooted, especially during such difficult times. Thank you to all who joined us and continue to support our people-powered movement.
As we celebrate Pride, let's also honor the movement of protest and resistance that gave rise to it. What began with Black and Brown Trans women at Stonewall continues today, as we face a hateful administration trying to reverse the progress we've made.
This is wrong, incredibly dangerous, and unacceptable behavior. Even when we disagree, we all have a responsibility to engage in civil discourse with each other with humility, care, and most importantly, the truth. I take this responsibility seriously. It's disappointing that so many do not.
Even though these claims have been debunked, many of these posts remain up and continue to be shared widely. These individuals have intentionally politicized a tragedy without bothering to fact check the incendiary claims they were propagating.
Today, in the aftermath of the horrific attack in DC last night, many who are seeking to discredit the progressive movement in Chicago have purposely shared misinformation attempting to connect the shooter to local progressive movement spaces and elected leaders.
As a person of faith, committed to seeing a more just and peaceful world, I am mourning today over the horrific attack that caused the death of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim. I condemn this act of violence and all forms of hatred, bigotry, and antisemitism in the strongest terms.
