After the House first passed the Big, Brutal Bill, my Republican colleagues said they hadn't even read what they voted on. From the most progressive to the most conservative parts of my district I've heard the same things: no one wants rural hospitals to close, SNAP benefits to be cut, & energy prices to go up. But that's exactly what Republicans are about to do. Why? So their wealthy donors can get ANOTHER tax break.

You cannot overstate the cruelty of forcing through over $1 TRILLION of healthcare cuts in the DEAD OF NIGHT just to pay for tax breaks for the top 0.1% of earners. Look, I got nothing against being wealthy. What I'm against is literally letting working folks die so the rich can get even richer.

So on Big Bill, H.R.1, a provision added was a $25 billion fund to help rural hospitals. Problem: Medicaid cuts are roughly $1 trillion over 10 years. Since roughly 24% of rural population is on Medicaid, that's roughly a $240 billion cut A $25B rural fund offsets only about 1/10th of the cuts.

87 years ago, President Roosevelt signed the Fair Labor Standards Act into law, establishing the 40-hour workweek, child labor protections, overtime pay, minimum wage and more. These protections were won because workers stood up, organized and demanded better.
