Happy 21st anniversary to my former union, @unitehere.org! In the 80s, I worked my way through college as a waitress represented by @local26-unitehere.bsky.social, with full health care & other benefits that were bargained for by my union. [1/2]

In Ireland, the Potato Famine is known as The Great Hunger because it wasn't just a famine, the British chose to divert food away from the starving Irish people. In Gaza, the starvation of Palestinians isn't just a byproduct of war - it is a policy choice. A choice America must not be complicit in.

We're still here. As Leader Jeffries said, leadership requires conviction & compassion & what we’ve seen is chaos, cruelty & corruption. I will not stop fighting until we ensure that no working person in this country dies or goes hungry to subsidize the lives of the wealthiest Americans. - Val
While we rightfully focus on Medicaid & SNAP cuts, this bill also gives Homeland Security & ICE over $160 BILLION. For context: that's a larger budget than every single MILITARY in the world, except for the U.S.'s & China's. All as they keep violating due process & refuse to answer to the people.
Tonight, I offered 4 common sense amendments to Republicans' Big, Brutal Bill.    In my final remarks I made one thing clear: I know you'll pass your damn bill if you want to, but stop coopting the struggles of working people to sell them a bill that will screw them & their futures.
McGovern: "A family making less than $50,000 a year? They get less than $1 a day in tax cuts. You can't buy a damn cup of coffee with that. But those making a million dollars or more? They'll get more than $250 a day in tax breaks ... that's how rigged this bill is to benefit the wealthy."
My office has been receiving so many calls today about the Big, Brutal Bill so I hopped on the phones to help out. Please keep calling: your stories and concerns help us illustrate just how bad AND unpopular this bill is.   And who knows, I might even pick up your call.
After the House first passed the Big, Brutal Bill, my Republican colleagues said they hadn't even read what they voted on. Today, I joined @repyassansari.bsky.social & my Democratic colleagues to read the entire bill aloud — so this time they won't be able to hide behind that same, pathetic excuse.
